We all have that one friend who pulls out a camera and takes pictures like mad at every social gathering, right? In Twilight's circle of friends, it's Spike. You wouldn't know it, but the baby dragon is quite the little shutterbug. He's not quite so diligent about getting the film developed, though; some of the pictures he just brought back from ( Read more... )

Joan is currently at a nearby table watching the scrapbooking session out of the corner of her eye. Possibly because of the obvious fact that there's a unicorn doing crafts. She can't keep herself from thinking that a Lisa Frank trapper keeper has come to life right before her very eyes.

This mun hasn't had any Lisa Frank merchandise in at least a decade, but she's pretty sure they never involved telekinesis. And yet, this unicorn seems to be applying glue to rhinestones using only the power of her mind.

(Okay, the horn clearly helps, but still!)

The unicorn hanging around behind her school can't do telekinesis either. What a rip-off.

Oh man. It'd be horrible if Twilight got distracted and spilled the glue. Joan's just gonna continue quietly watching.

The rhinestones are carefully placed into the scrapbook, next to a photograph of a white unicorn with huge, translucent butterfly wings.

WHAT IS THIS MADNESS? Unicorns with butterfly wings. It's like Gandhi's claim that there are honkeycorns. Part donkey, part unicorn, part hummingbird.

"That's a nice shot. You take the picture?" Whatever. She's acknowledging the unicorn now.

"Hm?" Twilight looks up. "Oh, no, Spike took all of these. I'm no good at photography."

"Oh. Well. He did a good job." She pauses hesitantly before awkwardly adding, "Or she."

"Spike's a he," Twilight assures her. "He's my personal assistant. A baby dragon."

A look of confusion passes across her face.

Is it odd that Joan finds dragons to be more unusual than talking unicorns? Probably.

"...you don't know what dragons are."

It's not exactly a question.

"No. I know what dragons are." Clearly that's not the issue here.

"...Why do you have a dragon assistant?"

"Because Princess Celestia gave him that job after I hatched his egg," says Twilight. Really, isn't it obvious?

Joan's never going to understand this. So she's just going to admit defeat here.

She gestures over at the current page Twilight's been working on, "Are you making that for him?"

"It's for my friend Rarity, actually. Her birthday's coming up in a couple of weeks." Twilight lifts another photo of the same white unicorn as before, sans wings, with reading glasses and a sewing machine.

Ha! The unicorn doesn't actually have butterfly wings. That's one thing that's been clarified. She's still hung up on the dragon though.

She leans forward to try to get a closer look at the picture before adding with an encouraging smile, "Well I'm sure she'll love it."

Well, she did have those wings for a couple of days, thanks to an enchantment. But not anymore.

"You think so? Maybe it needs more rhinestones..."
