John sees her, straightens up and smiles, but it's obvious he's exhausted. "Hallo, gorgeous! Haven't seen you in a dog's age." He holds up his left hand and chuckles. He's wearing a deaths-head ring made out of bone on his fourth finger. "Difficult? Happiest day of my life, innit?" He shrugs. "There's always a snag here and there. Mine just come with brimstone. How have you been?"
Teyla reaches out a hand to touch John's hand lightly. "The ring is significant?" There really isn't anyone on Atlantis who is married, so she's unfamiliar with the custom as it's done on Earth.
"I got hitched, sweetheart." He winks. "You missed your chance."
He takes a photo from his pocket an passes it to her. It's of a woman in her early 20s with long black hair cut in a fringe over her forehead. Her eyes are striking blue. She's wearing a red hoodie and a striped scarf and standing in front of a pub. And she's smiling like a kid in a toy shop.
"Here she is. Epiphany Greaves Constantine. Never thought I'd see the day," he says proudly.
"No." John grumbles a bit. "People throw confetti, yeah, but this is her idea of a joke. Oi, wait a minute," he says suddenly. "Din't you have a baby or something?"
"You look as though you've had a difficult day, John."
She's sans child today. Having Kanaan in the city has been useful if only in that he's a built-in babysitter for when Teyla needs a bit of time alone.

Oh, and that left hand? It's missing a thumb.

"Congratulations, John. I'm pleased for you." She glances at the state of his tuxedo. "The day did not go well?"

He looks at it with murder in his eyes. "Bar is pleased for me as well."

And she's almost comfortable around him again. Almost.
