The door opens, and by all appearances, a late-teenage boy walks in, apparently lost in thought (or just in bopping along with whatever's on his headphones).
Appearances, however, can be deceiving.
For one thing, it's not long before he pulls out one earbud, looks around, and grins. "Sweet! What's it been, three, four centuries ( Read more... )

Moist is preparing for a trip to his world so he's wearing a nice linen suit and carrying a briefcase that has paintings sticking out of it.

He smiles at Apollo as he sits down and orders some coffee, "Did I hear that right, again for the first time?"

"You did hear that right. It's been a long time since I was here last." He suspects the bar's awesome quota might have suffered for it, but that's just because his ego is the size of one of those deteriorating galaxies outside the Observation Window was at its prime.
(It clearly hasn't suffered in the hot quota, though."
"Interesting kit you got there."

"Not terribly, I'm just going to sell some art,"

Its actually his but that's not the idea. Instead he's going to be a businessman who happened upon these paintings that he really doesn't know the worth of.

Apollo raises an eyebrow. "Very enterprising of you. Think you'll get much out of it?"
His bullshit sense is tingling, but for now, he's not going to say anything. For now.

Moist takes out of the paintings, its a landscape with a man fishing done in oil. Its done with skill and not passion but pleasure, Moist likes creating beautiful things normally he scams people with them.

On his last job he had time to paint and liked it and now he's going to profit it by it, "I think I might if I can find the right buyers."

"Not bad. You have a good eye."
...oh, wait, did we say he wasn't calling Moist's bluff yet? Oops.

"Thank you, I like to think I know quality when I see it,"

He's going to interpret so that it works for him as clearly this attractive young man can't know he painted it. Or hopefully he can't, Milliways can be confusing and he gives Apollo one of his best smiles.

Apollo has a very good innocent smile. He's had thousands of years to work on it, after all.
"Yeah, it's hard to recreate quality if you don't know it on sight, isn't it?"

"I'm not sure what you mean by that,"

Surprisingly the painting isn't a copy, its Moist's original work but most of his work is lovely copies. He hates not knowing how people in Milliways can see through and drinks his coffee with a bland look.

Well, it doesn't have to be a copy for him to sell it as a 'lost work,' so long as it's in the same style.
"Oh, I think you do know."

Moist practices his innocent and befuddled look,

"No, I'm terribly sorry I don't."

"You keep telling yourself that," he says, perfectly mildly; it's really very lucky for Moist that Apollo's control of his temper is not what it once was. (As it is, he just thinks this guy's gonna be fun to mess with.)
"But if you're not careful, that'll come back to bite you in the ass."

"I don't quite understand what gave you that impression of me, but I'd like to change it. Can I get you another drink?"

He will find out how this smug young man can tell that he's not what he seems.

"Well, it wouldn't do to give away all my secrets right off the bat."
He considers the offer for a moment, then says, "Sure, why not?"
(The guy's hot, after all, and if the bar is self-serve these days it's unlikely to be tampered with. Not that said tampering would really do anything other than piss him off.)

"I quite agree but I hope you won't fault me too much for asking. What are you drinking?"

Apollo almost misdirects the guy - but then he decides he should see if the order rings a bell.
"Nectar, actually."
