The last few months in Milliways have been a bit of a mixed bag for Rachel. She's not sure what to think as she walks into the bar late in the day, much less when a napkin appears instead of the Coke she ordered ( Read more... )

Well. That's an easy decision. Scorpius was looking to have something bottled anyway.

"Could I have a butterbeer, please? I'll even open it myself, so you don't have to."

"Gold star," Rachel says approvingly, smirking as she finds and presents him with the bottle. "Here you go."

"Thanks," he says, using magic to take off its top. He's got his wand hidden in his sleeve, as usual.

"What do you do with the difficult customers?"

He's just a curious Ravenclaw.

She watches the emergence of the wand with the quick flicker of a grin. One of her Milliways favorites is a Hogwarts student himself, so it's something she notices along with the butterbeer. Cool.

As for difficult customers, Rachel laughs, though it's not terribly humorous as the first person she thinks of runs around in a mask and threatens her life fairly regularly. "Be difficult back, I guess."

"Right, 'course. That only seems fair," Scorpius says, grinning.

He'd likely back away without a fight, and serve them quietly.

Well, that's not going to stop them being difficult, now is it?

"I live to serve," she points out - with an entirely too mocking smirk, "so if they come up to me and act like a jerk, what they obviously really want is to be treated like one."

"What if, hm - What if they were grouchy because of a run-in with a bowtruckle? And this person was normally very nice. One of the sweetest persons you'd ever meet."

Like bowtruckles. Who don't bother anyone, unless having been bothered.

"Would you judge them for how they are in the moment?"

Curious Ravenclaws are very curious.

Suspicious customers are suspicious. Rachel eyes him for a moment, smirk fading as one eyebrow lifts.

"Are you planning to be grouchy with me?"

"Me?" Scorpius asks with utter innocence, wide-eyed. "No. No, 'course not."

Then, he frowns. Thoughtfully.

"Though, I suppose, maybe, in the honour of an experiment I might. But, uhm - Not tonight, no? Hadn't even crossed my mind."

Rachel eyes him a little longer.

"You'd go around intentionally ticking people off, just to see what would happen?"

Scorpius reddens, his face heating in embarrassment.

"I only meant, if I was participating in an experiment for that sort of thing, then maybe. But I'm not! And I don't think I'd want to, anyway."

He has enough trouble, and he doesn't need to be intentionally pissing off others too.

His embarrassment is, actually, more confusing than entertaining. But that also makes it a tiny bit endearing, for panicking over a question.

"Yeah, I don't really have a fondness for broken noses either," Rachel confides, smirking.

"Right," Scorpius murmurs, gingerly touching his nose. "Uhm. Have I said 'thank you' yet?"

He thinks so, but -

Just in case. He'll be the furthest thing from a grouchy, complaining customer.

He tips the bottle of butterbeer in appreciation. "Because, er, thanks."

"Tips are welcome, too," Rachel points out cheerfully.

"I - I've got a chocolate frog?"

He digs through his pockets, producing the boxed candy from its depths. And, with it, some more odds and ends too.

"And a quill. An ink well. Bit of parchment - No, those are notes actually. I need those. Uhm. A Charms textbook?"

A shrunken textbook, but a textbook nonetheless.

"Okay, okay," she says quickly, blinking at the assortment of magical knick-knacks piling up on the bar. "Calm down, I'm not asking for your lunch money. It was a joke. Jeez, you carry all this around in your pockets?"
