"Hallo everyone."

Carlotta comes over, her right leg in plaster, and sits down. She looks tired and fed up.

"What's 'rhyme jam'?"

"Hey." Connor looks up from the portable karaoke machine's manual, flashing a smile. "A mixed rhyming session. People can sing, or they can read poetry."

Carlotta smirks.

"I'm not sure you want to hear me sing. I say, is it the magic karaoke machine?"

"No, I asked Bar to borrow a normal one." Really, that magical thing would not be a good idea for Life Support.

"Hey, the fun of karaoke is singing, not singing well..."

"I don't think I'll know any modern songs." Carlotta says.

"There are older songs too." He points to the songbook. "A little something for everyone."

"They're sorted by decade, I think? The modern ones... well, around 2000's, Earth, are towards the end. The beginning are things from the 1900's and older classics."

"Oh, all right, maybe when some of the others have had a go." Carlotta says. "Have you been up for a song yet?"

"Hm, no, was setting it up." He chuckles.

"I... guess I could try."

"You first then." Carlotta says, handing him the microphone.

Oh, right... he chuckles, taking the microphone and the songbook, going over the list until he finds a good song...

"Desmond has his barrow in the market place
Molly is the singer in a band
Desmond says to Molly "Girl, I like your face"
And Molly says this as she takes him by the hand:
Ob-la-di, ob-la-da, life goes on, brah!
Lala how the life goes on...
Ob-la-di, ob-la-da, life goes on, brah!
Lala how the life goes on."

Carlotta grins and takes a biscuit. Connor can sing well, though she doesn't know the song.

He sings well enough to make the performance not an ordeal... getting most notes right.

"In a couple of years they have built a home sweet home,
With a couple of kids running in the yard,
Of Desmond and Molly Jones.

Happy ever after in the market place
Molly lets the children lend a hand
Desmond stays at home and does his pretty face
And in the evening she's a singer with the band

Ob-la-di, ob-la-da, life goes on, brah!
Lala how the life goes on...
Ob-la-di, ob-la-da, life goes on, brah!
Lala how the life goes on."

Carlotta sighs. If only life were as simple as the song.

She doesn't feel like the biscuit any more.

As the song finishes, Connor frowns a bit, putting the microphone away. "Wanna talk about what's wrong?"

"It's all that's expected of most women, isn't it? Marry. Have a baby. Do ironing forever."

She looks up. "It's the bloody war! My married life was supposed to be performing, on tour six months a year, travelling all around the country! And if I eventually had a kid, it'd be the same for them."

"Well, Molly Jones was a singer, actually." He sighs. "War is hell. And you know how true that saying runs, right?"

"People have been doing it since ever, and in the end, war never solves anything."
