Max is a bit banged up, and his clothes are somewhat the worse for wear when he walks back into the bar.

And heads straight for the bar.

Max is thirsty! And the first thing he wants is a whiskey.

Or two or three.

Then company! Max likes company! Especially the attractive female kind. Though, really, he's not terribly picky.

A tattered looking gentleman in Victorian era clothes ambles over and sits next to him. He takes off his top hat and settles it onto the bar with a ringing of bells that aren't actually heard by the ears. Instead the bells sound like they should be heard by the ears but just sort of by-pass the ear space.

He flashes a friendly smile and says, "Hello. I've not seen you here before."

Max looks over with a grin. He takes a sip of his drink before answering.

"Oh, that's probably because I'm usually invisible."

This is a lie.

"And that sir," he says, still with a smile, "Is a lie."

He says it like he were commenting on the weather though.

"Are you sure?" Max smirks. "After all, you haven't seen me before."

"Quite certain," he says with a return smirk. "I can tell when people lie."

Those bells ring as he speaks.

Max's head twitches ever so slightly, but he doesn't comment on the bells. Or lack of bells. Whichever.

"That sounds rather boring."

The Fool gives him a curious look. "What do you mean?"

Boring? What is this boring, you speak of?

"If you can tell whenever someone lies, then how can anything people do surprise you?"

Max likes surprises. At least, most of the time.

"They don't say anything. If you don't say a lie, I can't tell if you're lying or not."

"But that's half the fun," Max chuckles.

"I can't tell you what the truth of your lie is," he says. "If you tell me that you were eating carrots but were really eating pears, I couldn't tell you that you were eating pears, just that you weren't eating carrots."

Max considers that. "I suppose that's not so bad," he allows. "Often the fun of a lie is that everyone knows it is one."

The Fool frowns a little. He's always known when people lie to him so he's not really known the fun that Max speaks of. But the body does remember something like that.

"I think I know what you mean," he says finally.

"You think?" That doesn't sound reassuring.

"It's hard to remember."

"Remember what?" Now Max is confused.
