They're floating somewhere near Santo at the moment, and Mal's high on the horse after a job that actually didn't have too many complications to it.
So he's in the bar like he totally has been forever and ever clearly and finding an honest-to-God ale at not quite 10 am.
What? It's fiber.

So does being well fed. Luna figures that, as long as she's here, she might as well have breakfast. It will still be before dawn when she gets back to Hogwarts.
Which means that there's a young witch (in very wrinkled clothes) sitting at the bar with a plate of waffles and strawberries. She offers the man a bit of a smile.
"Good morning."

Such blonde hair. So young. It throws Mal, for just a minute.

She couldn't quite say why she has decided to strike up a conversation with a stranger at the Bar. Except that it is likely the only opportunity she'll have for a normal conversation for a bit.
And then, he's alone as well. And perhaps he would like company.
"It's a lovely morning, isn't it?"

He jabs a thumb towards the observation window.
You know.
The destruction of the multiverse.

"Yes. I'm really not sure that there's a time of day to call that by."
It would make a good riddle. If there are no more days, how does one tell time?
"It's still quite lovely though," she adds, looking back away from the Window. "The view. That is, if you don't think too hard on what it is."
Reply
Because Mal was about to go way too philosophical on her if she is as young as she looks.

Plus, she's rather curious as to where the answer might lead to.
"Fourteen this past February."
Reply
"Everything's lovely 'til you look too hard on 'em."
Reply
"Do you really think so?"
She forks up another bite, but doesn't eat it yet. Rather, she looks slightly fascinated by the shape of the whipped cream.
"Most of the time I think the opposite is true. That often things can seem ugly, or frightening, or even just ordinary until you look at them closely. Then you can often see something lovely about them."
She's not sure that she can apply this to yesterday. She's not sure she ever will be able to. But every rule has exceptions.

"They might be both true," Mal offers instead.
Reply
"They might indeed," Luna agrees.
Life being a merry whirligig of paradox.
"What kinds of things do you look at?"

Back to referencing the observation window again.
"What about yourself, away from all this mo shu?"
Reply
"And creatures. I'm very fond of watching creatures."
She follows the reference back to the window.
"Are you an alien?"

"That's true. I hadn't quite thought of it that way, but yes. I suppose to a lot of people here, I would be the alien. It's all relative to what you are yourself."
Sometimes that perspective can be hard to remember.
"I'm a human from Earth. I wasn't sure if you were the same. You look like you are, but you say you watch that a lot." Nod to the window. "So I wasn't certain."
