"I could save you the trouble, and tell you who wins." No footsteps arrived to her, or noise heralded the hand on the back of the chair next to hers. But still his voice was amused. And, well, he was there.

But that would be cheating. Or something.

Hello, Edward.

How are you?

"Only for you." Beat. "It's only a historical fact for me."

Well, yes. But I didn't say you couldn't know. Just that you shouldn't tell me.

"I can't decide if it's better or worse than last year, when the Canadiens were in the finals."

At least then all the fuss was actually about his team.

And yet she smiles anyway. Meg Ford, finding the amusement in her friends and love even when the topic gets overbearing. Bemused, he tapped his fingers on the back of the chair.

"Somewhere in your world we're already waiting with bets set on that game."

Even though he and Alice had already known who would win for a week then.

"And did you win anything on it? Game Five of the 1990 Stanley Cup Finals?"

Or should it be 'will you win anything on it?'

Meg laughs.

And did you lose anything on it?

Edward smirks, smaller, far subtler.

"Or on the several occurrences in a game."

I guess there's a lot to bet on, if you like.

"How have you been, Edward?"

Edward shrugged, nonchalantly.

"Homework." Bella.
"Music." Carlisle
"And Milliways."

The rest takes time.

"Two good things," she says. "And I can't imagine the third takes you much time."

She's reversed the order in which he listed them.

But he knows that, doesn't he?

"Not in high school at least."

But he has many things to make up for.

And if high school is the conduit, he can manage.

"University or anything?"

"When I decide to focus in something new."

And incredibly, incredibly rare.

I would almost think you'd want to ration those.

There can't be that many things you don't know about already, not if you hear everything.

I'd think tracking down something new would be a special occasion, really.
