Merlin has the Big Book of Magic tucked under his arm when he opens a door and finds Milliways.

He breaks into an enormous smile. Yes. Study time, anything he wants to eat or drink, and no one will notice he's gone at home.

He curls up in a booth, orders bread and honey to eat from one of the waitrats, and starts reading.

merlin emrys, yrael

The soft sound of paws can be heard as a small, very white cat lands on the divider between booths, behind Merlin's shoulders. Just a cat, yes. Ignore that it might be trying to read over Merlin's shoulder. Curiosity is a harsh mistress.

Merlin glances up. "Hullo, puss."

"Good evening, human," it answers equably, purring.

Merlin probably looks less surprised than most people do.

"And what's your name, then? I'm Merlin."

"Pleased to meet you, Merlin. Which name would you like? I seem to collect them," the Mogget smiles, sweetly.

"Your favorite?"

"Oh... um..." the cat actually hadn't thought about that. "I did enjoy Al Na'ir, when it was used. It is apparently the name of a white dwarf star, and means 'Bright One.' I enjoyed it."

"Though the earliest name I remember, and one I most often use, is Yrael."

"Pleased to meet you Al Na'ir, Yrael, and whatever else you wish to go by."

"Let's see, there's Enki - I believe that was a Sumerian god's name, the god of fish and wisdom, very fitting - Buckley, Zach, Keifer, Tumnus, a couple of people called me Snowflake, drat them, Nikola calls me mačkica, and for quite a while I was known as Mogget."

"But Yrael will do." ^_^

Merlin blinks at the litany of names, and seizes on the most obvious one.

"What does mačkica mean and why does Nikola call you that?"

"I'm not rightly sure," purrs the cat. "But I believe it simply means 'cat,' or something like, though it is usually said as a term of affection."

"Like calling someone pussycat."

He grins mischievously.

"Pretty much," grins the cat. "Of course, I call him 'kiddo,' in return."

Simply because there are so few who could say that to Nikola and have it be true.

"Is Nikola you, um, sweetheart?"

Yrael tilts his head, pondering.

"Possibly, though that is a word that may connote more than is meant. We enjoy each others' company here, though we come from radically different worlds."

Yrael and Nikola also approach relationships the same way, feeling more than is ever admitted, just in case.

"Being from different worlds should never stand in the way of love," says Merlin, confident despite his utter lack of experience.
