Guess who's not having a baby!

Clementine is over the moon. And she's planning on drinking herself under the table tonight:

In bright pink marker, she has scrawled on the chalk board:

COME CELEBRATE WITH CLEMMY

Sonya refuses to think that she's 'resigned' herself to the damn place, but between the odd jobs with construction and tutoring, it's all she can do to keep from being sane.

The specials board and a rather cheerful Clemintine do manage to catch her attention. She's not sure if she can really outbooze the bar tender, but she's single (thank god) and right now..actually getting a little wasted doesn't seem like such a bad idea.

"A pint of whatever lager's on tap." She held up her left hand. "and I'm very much single."

Was she smug-there was the possiblity. After all her so called 'intended' (from his point of view anyway, not hers) was a smug son of a bitch anyway.

Clementine salutes her. "I've got some good stuff," she says, running some Reno craft brew for her. "I haven't seen you around lately. How've you been doing?"

Not surprising, as Sonya's mostly kept to herself: being reclusive in the back and away from the crowded parts of the bar.

She returns the salute. "Living." So to speak, she was doing well enough anyway. "Just trying to keep busy."

Translation: trying to keep sane.

"What about you? Haven't seen you this thrilled for awhile."

"That sounds better than dying. What do you do to keep busy?" The beer makes a soft hissing noise as it fills the glass. "I thought I was knocked up. Turns out I'm not." She takes another slug of tequila before she hands Sonya her beer.

"Teaching self defense and how to speak chinese." In a completely different time period, which added its own challenges. "Beyond that it's the occasional construction job."

She really needs more to do, but it works for the time being.

The mention of her dodging the pregnancy bullet does bring on some mixed feelings. On the one hand, Sonya's happy for her, but it's more because she herself doesn't have a maternal bone in her body, and her own career and lifestyle back home is NOT the sort to raise a kid in.

On the other hand, a number of the men she's had on the team are dads, and one couldn't help but feel happy for them when word got around.

"Guess that does explain the 'drinking under the bar' disclaimer." She accepts the glass and takes a swig.

"You know Chinese?" Clem's somewhat impressed. "I didn't know who the potential dad was, only that it wasn't any of the options I was hoping for."

"Mostly Mandarin, my cantonese dialect is just average." Well, atleast according to her training, which meant she could only hold a basic conversation in the language. "Also speak French, Russian and German."

"Even more of a reason to celebrate not being pregnant." She raised her glass to her. It was one thing to have an unwanted pregnancy, but to not exactly who the father is was even worse.

Clementine nods her head. "All I know is English. I've always been fascinated with more Cosmopolitan languages." Clementine raises back her decanter and takes another swig. "So who's your significant other?"

"It was part of the training course." she explained. "Special Forces are nearly always required to do overseas duty, and it's eaiser when everyone on the team speaks several languages rather than relying on a translator who may not be trusted."

At the question, Sonya let out a slight 'hmph'. "Was KIA two years ago."

It was still a fairly sore subject for her, which was why she kept the details fairly clinical.

Clementine nods. "It's impressive."

She has the grace to wince. "Ouch. Sorry." Sonya gets poured a double for that.

"It's not just learning to fire a rifle-that's only part of the job." And it's not the best job there is, despite what the propoganda posters say. Sure the benefits are good, but the hours are terrible and so is the pay-one would have to really want it for a career to stick it out.

Sonya doesn't exactly grin, but her face relaxes a little. "It's combat, it could've happened to any of us."

But it didn't, it happened to him.

She looks at the glass. "Thanks."

Clementine was never military herself; she can't imagine what it was like for Sonya.

"Welcome." She's thinking about death in the line of duty and shudders.
