Some things even doctors don't really want to find out. Like where one of their patients picked up a case of scale itch.

"Bar? Going to need ryncol today. Or equivalent. Curse my salarian memory."

Nearby a teenaged human girl is asking Bar, "Can I have any good factual accounts of Doctor Doom's war on Earth 616 last may in that reality? In English? Thanks." Her eyes widen a bit by the stack of papers that materialize.

"That much huh? Well I asked for it didn't I?"

Despite the icon, she is not in her armor.

"Distraction. Thank you." Mordin makes no bones about stuff like this. "Sounds like interesting readinig."

Val's eyebrows raise a bit and she wonders if he (she?) had meant to say it out loud.

"I'm hoping it ends better than it starts. It's not my home dimension but my family lives there." And that's likely the simplest way to say it.

Mordin nods. "Unusual situation. Purely out of curiosity, was Milliways involved? Dimensional transportation not generally common. Could be wrong, of course."

"Long story," Val replies slipping into his mode of speech without meaning to. "I mean it's along story. I'm a mutant and can jump through time and space. I landed in this reality and then mine got erased so these guys are all the family I have left."

"Interesting. Never heard of capabilities like that. Doubtful it exists in my universe," says Mordin. It's worth noting that in addition to dropping unnecessary words out of his sentences, Mordin speaks at a speed that has led to him being described as a hamster on coffee. "Only biotic ability related to travel limited to purely line-of-sight locomotion. My condolences on loss of your family, however. Never an easy thing."

"Thank you," she replies witha smile. "May I ask what species you are? Do you interact with humans?"

"Of course. My species is salarian. Name, Professor Mordin Solus. Currently stationed on board human starship SSV Normandy." He smiles. "Handful of other species on board. But mostly, humans."

"I'm Valeria von Doom but please feel free to call me Val," she says automatically falling into a respectful tone due to professions and other doctors. "Is the Normandy a research vessel?"

Mordin shakes his head. "Military. Currently attempting to track down information regarding extra-galactic threat to human life and all other life in galaxy," he says. "Task necessitates research, hence my function on the ship."

"That's sounds terrible," she replies a little worried. "Why does genocide and agression seem to be universal?"

"Seems to be part of fifty-thousand-year cycle for Reapers, having persisted for millions of years," says Mordin. "Purpose uncertain. Have hypotheses, suspicions- nothing concrete. Difficult to determine motivations for completely alien biomechanical entities."

"'Biomechanical'? They're some sort of cyborgs?"
