Bella Swan is out by the lake, attempting (with little success) to skip small pebbles across its surface. She remembers having had the knack of this once upon a time, as a small child, but had since lost it when epic clumsiness turned up sometime in her early teenage years.

Mostly she's doing it as a means of not having to think. It's still too cold to properly be out here at night, but she's careful to dress in enough layers at any given time that surprise Milliways appearances (and planned Milliways trips, now that she knows where a few regular doors are) aren't a big deal when the seasons don't quite line up.

She can't help but shiver a little, though, when she remembers having surfaced in this very lake a mere few weeks earlier. More time has passed here, and it adds to the sense of disconnection she feels from the Bella who made the choice to jump. She still hasn't talked about that with anyone who would push past her excuse that she'd just been messing around, and probably won't. It was stupid, but it's in the past.

Another rock slides briefly across the surface and quickly under before it can really get going, and Bella grumbles under her breath in frustration at its lack of cooperation.
