Happy Hour

Urquhart had just wanted a bowl of dog food for Franz; but when he approaches the bar tonight, he gets the familiar yellow napkin.

Well.

There are worse things.-

Dog Themed Happy Hour

Dog House Dew
Dog Biscuit
Fluffy Dog
Prairie Dog

Then, he stands behind the bar and waits for customers. Franz the dog settles down underneath a bar stool.

"I'm sensing a theme here," she replies, approaching the bar with a knowing look.

(She can also sense the dog without even needing to look to confirm its presence; in fact, she caught its scent even before she came downstairs, a fact that's still all kinds of unnerving.)

Saffron!

"And the reason for the theme is under that stool," Urquhart says. "His name is Franz. He followed our friend Alfred in from his world."

The dog lifts his head and thumps the floor with his tail.

"He likes you," she replies, after a beat of brief deduction and a quick glance under the stool at the dog in question.

"But I'm getting the impression that it's because he's a little spoiled."

"He is well-trained and does what he is told," Urquhart says. "So he gets perks. That's the ancient contract of humanity and caninity."

"Well, the bond is already there, I can tell that much."

She takes a seat - though not on the stool underneath which the dog is laying.

"I do hope you haven't been too lonely in my absence."

"I have spent some time with Alfred," Urquhart says, "but we could always use some Saffron, of course."

"I can't fault you for that, of course."

She grins at him from her side of the bar.

"Make me one of those Dog Dews?"

Urquhart gets a glass and begins mixing the drink. It's fairly simple.

"You probably approve of our taste in women," he says, winking at her.

"It's possible I'm leaning toward the side of biased," she confesses, resting her elbow on the bar and placing her chin in her palm.

Urquhart smiles, leaning over the bar, and kisses her.

She returns the kiss, smiling quickly against his mouth, and when she sits back on the barstool, there's still a coyness playing across her expression.

"Though I do love the result it gets me."

Urquhart finishes her drink, and pushes it over to her.

"You just have to ask, and it's all yours," he says.

"That's a dangerous kind of promise to make," she replies, fingers sliding around the glass.

"So open-ended."

"Oh, there is a natural end to it," Urquhart says. "No man can keep going forever. Not even a dead Scot. When you had all I can give for a night, that'll be it for the time being."

"I wouldn't exactly push you past your physical limits," she answers, looking over at him.

"Maybe."

"But I'd quite ready to let you push me right up to it," Urquhart says.
