Today, his milkshake came with a little fortune cookie garnish hooked over its rim. As soon as he saw it, his eyes lit up, and he plucked it free of the mountain of whipped cream to crack it open.

"I have to ask."

Kali's seated on a rafter next to him, eyeing him with barely suppressed amusement.

"Yes," he says, very solemn. "Yes, it is strawberry."

He holds out the milkshake to her.

She snorts, and does not take the proffered milkshake; maybe because she's already got a drink in one hand, the same brilliant red as her blouse.

"Is it some trick in the works? I can't wait to see how it plays out."

He quirks an eyebrow, bringing the milkshake back for a long slurp.

"All I'm gonna say," he says, with the same cheerful eye-gleaming solemnity, "is that nobody ever looks up the first time they walk in here."

"Really." Amused. "Are you waiting for anyone in particular?"

"I'll know 'em when I see 'em."

That's usually how it goes, isn't it? He reclines a little in his chair -- or, you know, reclines as best he can when he's balanced on a giant sphere.

"So what's been keeping you busy? Anything new?"

(Hey, look, a subject change!)

"Oh, nothing much." She's eyeing the globe.

The globe fails to eye her back.

(Not for lack of trying on his part. Just like it's got him stuck up here, so it's pretty damn impervious to anything he's thrown at it so far. And a pair of eyes around Greenland level would be so cute.)

"All quiet on the western front?" he asks. "Eh. Boring."

"It really is."

A faintly skeptical frown at the globe.

"You know, you can be grandiose when you set your mind to it, but I never really thought world domination metaphors were your thing."

Dammit.

To his credit, he keeps the, ...uh. look from encroaching too far up his face. "They're not! Usually. I just asked for a chair and this is the one I got."

Blame Bar, Kali, not him!

The look she's giving him is a lot more skeptical.

"It's very comfortable," he goes on, wide-eyed and earnest. "I think I might get one for my own place."

"Really?"

It doesn't look all that comfortable.

"... Could I try it out?"

"Yeah, of course!"

He scoots over a little to give her enough space.

... 'enough space' if one doesn't mind being rather cramped, that is.

She eyes him dubiously, and waits.

He gestures grandly to the available spot, tiny as it might be.

Come on, Kali! They like each other. You don't mind being close, do you?
