Leela is just as surprised, if not more. She's not sure how much time has passed, but she knows it's been a while. And flying into the Bar and landing in a heap isn't the kind of impression you want to make on someone you haven't seen in a while. Especially someone like Jim.
"Getting a drink? Taking a break?" He wishes that bar weren't between them because he would so give her a hug. "And apparently getting waited on by a fellow captain."
"Thanks! I've been really dedicating myself to Arcturan Kung Fu. And, of course, regular at the gym."
If by 'regular' we mean stepping inside the building once every few months.
"You don't look so bad yourself," she smiles, sliding his drink to him. "It's business as usual at Planet Express. The Professor invents things, his inventions explode, I come flying through the door. How's the Enterprise?"
"It's political, that's all. The outgoing president seems to like us, for some reason." A pardon for the rest of the crew and a return to command for Jim would suggest that. "And it's not likely to be much fun. Even in Paris."
"You should know...I met someone a few months back. It's nothing really serious. And I haven't seen her in a while. But..." Fact is, he's not sure how he feels at the moment. Not seeing 99 has confused things as much as knowing he was falling for someone who kept everything about herself a secret. "I hate to say things are complicated. But they might be."
She frowns briefly, letting the disappointment sink in. Her answer to awkward situations is generally to either a) start beating the crap out of something, or b) pretend like it doesn't bother her.
She laughs nervously, going with option b.
"Right, well. I guess I was gone for a while. And we didn't really talk about things before I left. So, it's not a big deal."
"Yes. But..." He's sorry? Yes, but what good would it do to say that?
"If you want to see Paris in the past, if you run into me here, if I have the time..." If 99 continues to not be around? "...honestly, I could use the fun. I hate politics."

"What are you doing here?"
Silly question #1.

In fact, she'd return it with gusto.
"Maybe not waited on," she says, rubbing the back of her neck. "Assisted. Or refreshed by."
She hopes, at least.
"Uh, what can I get you?"

"We might be headed back to Earth in a few weeks. Presidential inauguration is coming, and I might be invited." Pardon him for not sounding excited.

Replacing all the singed clothing and equipment is getting tiresome.
"Invited to the inauguration? Isn't that a big deal?"

She blinks.
"Not much fun?"
What, is he serious?
"Uh. Well, are you taking someone?"

"There is something you should know about." Jim had best be honest about this.

Simple fact: a trip to another city is more fun with someone than it is alone. Or with Fry, who doesn't yet count as 'someone'.
She eyes him carefully.
"What?"

Not the smile of the victor, of course, but the one who lost the match. The one telling the cameras better luck next time.
"I guess the Eiffel Tower doesn't float in your time, does it?"
