Happy Hour -- IMDb Flu Edition

There's a bartender tonight. Is it someone you recognize? Well, that's debatable.

The sweet Southern cowgirl is really only a shadow of herself, wearing a boisterous little number that shows a generous helping of her long legs, leaving the scar on her right arm bare to the world. Her voice is different, too -- a Louisiana affectation rather ( Read more... )

William tries not to stare when he comes up to the Bar and keeps feeling like he should know the woman there,

"What's gelato and a jukebox, Miss? Miss Barlow, that you?"

Then he sneezes, he doesn't want to get sick.

She fishes out a tissue from behind the Bar, and hands it to him.

"Gelato is like ice cream, only a little sweeter. And a jukebox--"

She points over his shoulder to where one sits.

"--plays records when you put money in it."

The boy looks familiar, and when he mentions her name she stops to think.

"Mmm, most people call me Scarlett," she says, holding out a hand.

"Thank you, Miss Scarlett,"

He takes the tissue and sneezes before carefully taking her hand,

"What sort of money does the jukebox take?"

"You're welcome. But it's just Scarlett."

She has a sweet way of speaking: soft, quiet, and naturally flirtatious. It just rolls right off her tongue.

"You know? I'm not sure. I know the Bar takes all kinds of money."

She really dose look like Miss Barlow but he looks like other people. He nods and walks over to the jukebox and puts in a nickel, which it takes.

Then he stares at the songs for a while before picking one called Sixteen Tons.

Its not quite how he remembers it but he knows the words as he walks back to the Bar.

Her ruby red lips pull into a broad grin.

"A man who appreciates the classics. You can't go wrong with that."

She puts a little extra emphasis on 'man' as she says it, eyes traveling from his boyish face to his cowboy hat.

"Where are you from? And what can I get you? Half-off, you know."

Her look makes him blush and he hesitates and shakes his head before saying,

"What do you recommend? I'm from near Bisbee in Arizona Territory."

"Mmm, you like things spicy? A little hot?"

She leans against the Bar.

"Or are you more a fan of the Southern Comfort?"

"Hard to go wrong with either, Miss, but don't mind spicy,"

She's being very forward and he just reminds himself that this is Milliways and feels odd but asks her,

"Any of them blue?"

She arches an eyebrow, and snickers.

"I could think of a few, if blue's what you like. The French Quarter Champini is pink, and the Absinthe Frappe is green. But I make a decent 501 Blue, if you're interested."

"You got some ID on you?"

She pauses for effect, and then starts to laugh.

"Kidding."

She moves to the other side of the bar and mixes him a drink -- Blue Curacao, blueberry schnapps, vodka, sour mix, and 7-Up -- and sets it down in front of him, adding a little paper umbrella.

"Why'd I need ID?"

Its a really blue drink and William stares at it before grinning, blue's good,

"That's pretty, thank you."

"You're welcome. Where I usually work they check your ID at the door before they let you in."

"How old would I have to be to be let in?"

He takes a sip and its a strange drink but kind of tasty, the blue makes it work.

Color does wonders for the taste of things.

"Twenty-one. Some places will let you in if you're eighteen."
