Jane enters Milliways wearing a bonnet and jacket since she had stopped at an inn on the way to London with her brother and the Comtesse. When she asks Bar what's going on she is greeted by a little cake and a book along with a napkin ( Read more... )

Ben was just about sure this place was part of some drunken dream before he found himself yet again on Milliways' doorstep. This time she caught him on the road so at least he's dressed less embarrassingly. What's weird though is that there is someone behind the bar this time.

"I'm on a journey now, does that count?" He asks as he swings the huge backpack from his shoulders to rest on the floor.

[OOC: Slow okay? I want this Ben to meet some more people.]

(OOC: Slow is always okay and I was thinking about tagging his last EP so this works great.)

"It does, sir. What might I get you and where are you going?"

The bag is rather impressive and Jane wonders where he's going to put it.

"How about some coffee to start?" he replies as his stomach grumbles. "And maybe something to eat? Is there a kitchen here?"

He's not sure of the way she's dressed and wonders if she's from a different time than him or just dressing up for fun.

"There is, sir. What would you prefer?"

She asks while pouring him a cup of coffee and setting some cream and sugar beside it.

"Maybe a burger or stew?" It's weird being called sir but he shrugs it off. Some kids who thought they could get on his good side would try that so he learned to ignore it. "As to where I'm going, I'm on what the Aboriginals called a walk about. Final destination is in Nevada but I'm taking the slow way for now."

"One moment, sir. That sounds like a grand journey,"

A wait rat goes by and Jane asks where she might find something and is pointed to a pot. In a few moments, there is a brimming bowl of beef stew with warm bread beside it for Ben.

Ben nods. "It's been fun so far. I'm hoping the trip will help me figure out what to do with my life and at the end I get to see my best friend. Haven't seen the guy for years so I'm really looking forward to it. I'm walking and hitching rides mostly but I have cash for a bus if I need."

He takes a bit of the stew and breaths in bliss. "This is really good!"

"I hope you can figure it out. Might I ask what your friend is doing in Las Vegas? I have never been disappointed with any food from Milliways."

"He's not in Vegas actually, he's out in the desert. It's an experiment in dimensional physics from what I understand, which isn't a whole lot to be honest."

He takes another bit before speaking again. "Can I ask you a question? If you could get a job, a well paying one, doing something you love doing, would you take it? Even if it meant you'd be turning your back on college?"

He's working under a few assumptions there, can you tell?

She frowns since neither of those choices are available to her,

"Would you still learn if you pursued the employment?"

Ben wonders at the frown but decides it's probibly a thinking frown.

"Well, technically there'd be nothing stopping me but I know professional football players have a busy life. I doubt there would be time for school between practice, games and travel."

"I am afraid that I have never heard of a professional football player. What would it involve?"

Her accent sinks into Ben's self awareness as he ponders this.

"You're English right? It's a lot like Rugby but with more rules and less mud." At least in Ben's time there's less mud...usually.

"People will pay enough to support yourself playing football?"

"More than enough. Players tend to make a lot of money."

"I see, but education will last you longer than money."
