It's a cold, bundled-up SVU detective that bustles through the door of Milliways this evening, rubbing his hands briskly as he sheds his winter coat and steps behind the bar.

Jack's not far behind Munch, peeling off his heavy coat and gloves as he takes a seat on a barstool.

"Irish Coffee, please," he says with a glance up at the specials board. Warming, caffeinated and alcoholic. Sounds like a perfect start to the night.

Because honestly, what else could be better?

"Coming right up," Munch replies with a nod to the man on the barstool.

At a moment when Jack's not sure his toes'll come with his feet when he takes off his boots, not much.

"Thanks. I take it you were outside enjoying the cold as well?" Jack asks, his tone slightly sardonic.

"Oh yes, I was just loving it. Winter in New York is one of my favorite things."

There's just the slightest sarcastic edge to Munch's voice, as well.

"Yeah, just as much as I love winer in Arizona." Jack squints at him thoughtfully. "Any chance you're a friend of Kate Beckett?"

That sense of humor certainly fits a lot of the cops and agents Jack's known.

"Sorry; never heard of her," Munch replies, sliding the Irish Cream the gentleman's way.

Jack takes a sip of the coffee, relishing the feeling of warmth sliding down his throat.

"Must be a different New York, then, since she comes in here too."

Jack hesitates for a second, then holds out his right hand, angling it so the scarring on the back of his hand is a little less obvious. "Jack Bauer."

"Probably," Munch agrees.

He sees a little bit of the scarring on the other man's hand, but doesn't say anything about it as he accepts the handshake. "John Munch. Nice to meet you."

"Same here. You been coming in here long?" Jack asks.

"A few years, give or take."

Jack smirks. "That counting the time spent in here, or the time spent outside or both? I'm never sure how to add it up."

"Both; it's just easier for me that way," Munch answers with a similar smirk.

"Then I've been coming here for about two years. A little over a year in bar time, and about nine months outside." Jack gives Munch a grim smile. "'Course that also just makes me sound older, at least to me."
