Since the conversation with Peeta, Katniss has been dodging doors to Milliways; each time one turns up she thinks of the possibility of seeing Rue, and it puts knots in her stomach.
She should be happy, that Rue gets to have something good after the horrors of the arena, and she is. She really is. But that doesn't make Rue any less dead, and Katniss doesn't know how to face that.
The fourth time a door shows up, though, Katniss hesitates. Avoiding Milliways isn't going to make her any readier. She knows that. And she's not a coward by nature.
So, this time, she takes a deep breath and steps through, and closes the door behind her.
