Monday Morning Multipup!

In and around Milliways this morning, one finds:

a piece of software at the Bar with an energy shake and a VidWindow;
a pregnant woman at a table covered in electronic bits;
a Warehouse agent in a booth with a crossoword puzzle;
a combat droid tromping through fresh-fallen snow by the lakeside;
and a black cat curled up on the seat of the armchair

Once she's gotten in some R&R in her draconic form, Kreyu resumes her favorite human shape and wanders back into the Bar.

She spots Alyx, and heads over to see what she's doing with all of those strange bits of metal.

Alyx is currently in the process of trying to solder some wires to a circuit board. Whether Kreyu will recognize what's going on is questionable; even if she knows what a circuit board is, this one is decidedly weird-looking.

Kreyu has no idea what she's looking at. Is it jewelry or art of some kind?

"Hello," she says at a moment when Alyx isn't actively soldering anything.

"Hm?" Alyx glances up. "Oh, hi. I don't think we've met."

[brave_kreyu]

"I don't think we have either," she replies with a smile. "I am Kreyu," she says, offering a hand.

"Might I inquire what you're working on?"

[a_mere_child]

"Alyx." She shakes the offered hand. "Kreyu... that name sounds familiar, but I can't quite..."

[brave_kreyu]

"I was recently in your world assisting in the Battle with the Combine," Kreyu replies.

[a_mere_child]

"Ohhhh, right, you're the woman who turns into a dragon," says Alyx with an understanding nod.

...and she can't believe she said that with a straight face. Fucking Milliways.

[brave_kreyu]

Kreyu chuckles. "It might be more accurate to put that the other way around, but yes."

She peers curiously at the circuit board.

[a_mere_child]

"Well, this--" Alyx gestures at the table-- "is what we fought that battle to get, at least in part. When I put it all together, it'll be a remote-control drone that we can use to deliver a biochemical agent into the heart of enemy territory without them even noticing until it's too late."

[brave_kreyu]

"That is good news," Kreyu replies with a fierce smile. "They have earned no pity and no sympathy from me."

[a_mere_child]

"They don't deserve any. Believe me."

[brave_kreyu]

Interesting, Alyx has that same almost a brood-bond feel that Gordon does.

"Oh, I believe you," Kreyu replies. "If it wasn't for his temper, I would try and bring my brood-mate Revenin along on my next visit to your world."

"Your what?"

[brave_kreyu]

"It's a bit difficult to describe in human terms," Kreyu replies with a small blush.

"I suppose the closest equivalent would be soul-mates, but not in any romantic sense of the word."

She frowns a bit, looking for the right words. "Brood-mates are drawn to each other, life after life. Bound to one another in many ways as if we were part of a larger whole."

That sounds familiar.

"Life after life?" echoes Alyx. "So you believe in reincarnation."
