After discovering the existence of the stables, Olive's found herself wandering down there quite frequently to soothe any of life's little humps and bumps

Ed is in the stables today as well - not scaring the horses, as one might reasonably expect, but grooming Ein with a currycomb in one of the empty stalls. She's evidently been playing around in the hay, too, as she has lots of the stuff in her fluffy red hair.
Ed looks up when Olive passes by the stall and smiles. "Hello hello, Olive Pie-Person!"
Ein looks up as well, although with more irritation than pleasant surprise, as Olive's appearance has interrupted Ed's combing out his fur.
Ed looks bewildered for a moment, as if she doesn't understand how this can possibly be the case. But she runs her fingers experimentally through her hair anyway. When she checks her hand, she finds an impressive collection of hay and hay-related detritus, which prompts her to scrub through her hair vigorously with both hands for several seconds.
"There!" Ed says when she's done. "All better!" (She still has some hay in her hair, and most of what was there before has migrated to her clothes.)
"Okay, okay, Ein!" Ed says as she starts brushing him with the currycomb again. The Corgi reclines on the hay, his tail wagging lazily. "Ein likes brushing," Ed informs Olive. "It makes his coat shiny shiny shiny." Indeed, Ein's coat looks sleeker than usual.
"But Olive Pie-Person can take a turn if she wants, while Ed skritches Ein behind the ears! Or Olive Pie-Person can skritch Ein's ears while Ed keeps brushing."
Ein's tail-wagging increases in speed and intensity, and he looks up at Olive hopefully.
"Yay!" says Ed. "Does Olive Pie-Person want to build the block city or make the chopped-liver people? Or we could each do half!" Think of the possibilities!

"That's why I do it, too. With horses, though," she feels the need to add.

"Hard to resist a face like that," she says, squatting to scratch the sweet spot between the dog's ears.
