Yesterday was a day of shooting- and, very briefly, shouting. Today, not so much. Ellen's got work to do outside to meet John-117's standards, and that takes a lot of time, a lot of effort, and a whole lot of sweating

"Oh- hi, Jordan." Ellen looks up and smiles, though it's a little bit wince-influenced; the burn mark along her right cheek isn't very comfortable. "I'm doing all right. Long day today, out back. How have you been?"
"No, it's not worth it," Ellen says. "It's a lesson in why I need a helmet. Laser burn. There was a robot... Thank you for the offer, though. Have your formulas come along much in development since last time?"
"Not really. I left Kendy doing experiments back home, but there's only so much I can advance without practical testing..." And that would mean using her stimies on people.
Injured people. "Got sidetracked by a heat-gun idea."
"It is a microwave emitter firing inside a double-helix field of artificial gravity focused by force field lenses. The idea is to have sun-like heat focused on a single spot, and make anything hit evaporate. No melting, no slag, no ash, just turn what it hits into a cloud of vapor."
...Jordan is plotting a doomsday weapon? "Reshaping the lenses with the force field actuators I can in theory go from a wide beam to sweep a battlefield with, to a narrow band of focused heat that can cut and pierce anything."
"Problem is, test-firing it in my lab would not be a good idea." Which is actually good, if you think about it?
Ellen nods. "Sounds like the kind of thing Dr. Girlfriend would know about," she says. "Although I haven't seen her in ages. Not since I had to buy some microfusion cell substitutes from her, back when I had my Gauss rifle."
"If you need spares, I can make them for you. My fusion reactor is running on low power most of the time, or I would run out of storage for nuclear fuel."
"I'm reasonably well supplied, but I'm down by about six," Ellen says. "There was a robot in here the other day who needed them. What would you need in exchange for six more MF cells?"
"Actually, if you don't mind the company, I'd like to go take a few biological samples from the mutated wildlife..." She is back to biological experimentation.
"It might be a little hard to explain just yet," Ellen says. "Star Paladin Cross and I just came from a battle in DC where three strangers showed up out of the Metro tunnels to help me. Asking her not to wonder where a fourth one came from would be a bit much- but give it some time and I'll try to come get you. And if you want, I can gather some parts as long as I'm at it. I mean, I've got yao guai meat in my backpack as a ration, it's not like I don't get this stuff fresh."

"On the full-sized model, of course, that'd need to be mounted on a tank. A handheld model wouldd have a three feet cone or so."
