Cal had intended to try and come up with something different the next time Bar asked him to bartend, but, after the last happy hour he visited, he's feeling a little stubborn

Carlotta drops down from the rafters, next to the bar.

"Hallo."

Cal smiles.

"Hi, Carlotta," he says. "How've you been?"

"Just passed my exams." Carlotta says, with a grin.

"Congratulations," Cal says, grinning back.

"What would you like? On me."

[fiery_ring]

"Oh, ginger beer please." Carlotta says. "Thank you."

She perches on a barstool.

"I got exactly 80% overall, which was the exact grade boundary for a merit."

"A merit?"

There is a tap for ginger beer today; Cal draws some into a pint glass and puts it in front of Carlotta.

"It's the grade between Pass and Distinction."

[isaysimplewords]

"Ah," Cal says with a nod. "Nice job. Were they hard?"

[fiery_ring]

"Dreadfully, but they're done now." Carlotta says. "I was one percent off failing the French."

[isaysimplewords]

"French is a hard language," says Cal, who never actually studied it. "Good job on the other ones, though."

[fiery_ring]

"Thanks, my study mate is French so she helped me." Carlotta says. "We spoke nothing but French to one another for three weeks before the exam."

"Wow," Cal says. That sounds like a pretty complicated way of studying.

"It helped?"

[fiery_ring]

"It helped the oral exam, at least."

[isaysimplewords]

"Well, that's good," Cal says. Speaking a language is more important that being able to write it, right? People learn to talk first, after all.

"Anything else I can get you?"

[fiery_ring]

"No thanks, it's not long since dinner. How are you?"
