Gold travels well, in most worlds - much better than coinage. Jamie wasn't expecting Elle to thank him for that day in London, so it's a nice surprise on a few counts.
"Oi, Bar, I don't reckon you could let me know how long ago she left this?"
It's been a while since Jamie's been in the bar; how long, he's not sure. Time's all relative anyway, so it doesn't much matter.
Bar, in any case, doesn't provide an answer, but he didn't really expect one anyway. "All right, in that case," he says, amiably enough, "I'll take chips and a lemon ice."
