Why halo thar, Milliways. It's been a while for Ramon. After all the trouble, and the resulting surgery, and the cells and then the recuperation, he didn't feel much like coming in. So he's had a month or so on his island in the Bahamas and as a result walks in looking relaxed, his deep tan set off by a white shirt and worn, casual jeans ( Read more... )

Fiona, as one might expect, isn't far behind him, her skin a dark tan, and her long hair streaked with gold from the sun.

She slips a hand into his, waiting for his order to appear, eyes casting around the bar to see who's here. There's an edge to her gaze as she scans the crowd.

'You OK?'

He's not expecting trouble. Not unaware of the possibility, of course.

She nods, but he can see that's not entirely true. He knows that predatory look in her eye, knows the way she steps when she's ready for a fight.

"Haven't been back in awhile, that's all."

She squeezes his hand, trying to reassure him.

'Me either. And we're here for dinner and to drink. No need to worry.'

Unless anyone starts on them, in which case, anything goes.

"Right."

She doesn't sound convinced. There's a dark booth in the corner that's available.

"That looks cozy."

And it has all the necessary sight lines.

He shrugs. Her choice, he's not bothered where they sit as long as he can put his back to the wall. So he heads over, thinking about what he's hungry for.

'What's wrong? I thought you were alright with coming in tonight.'

She only lets go of his hand to take her seat, and when he's settled, she nudges his arm until he drapes it around her shoulders.

"Oh I am. I'm just not in a mood to tangle with anyone tonight."

That's possibly a lie. She looks like she could commit murder tonight, as easy as sipping tea.

'Bullshit,' he says, easily, putting the arm around her and pouring them shots with the other.

'Who're you interested in?'

She glances up at him, her eyes slitting. He shouldn't have to ask.

She fishes in his pocket for his cigarettes, and lights one for him, handing it over after a quick taste.

When she speaks, her voice is low and dark. "Caro, what would you do if someone laid a hand on me against my will? Or worse, what would you do if someone put me in the hospital?"

'Shoot them in the face,' he says easily, taking the smoke off her.

'But it's different.'

He didn't really need to ask. But some things are good to be clear on.

Shooting them in the face would be too quick, she thinks.

"How is it different, hmm?"

She settles back, one hand idly caressing underneath the lapel of his jacket.

'Because I'm a man.'

Yes, he knows it's sexist and he doesn't care.

'Men are supposed to exact revenge if their women get hurt. But if we get hurt, we take care of it ourselves.'

It's just the way it is.

A little smirk curls across her lips. She tugs on his lapel, gently.

"Oh I see how it is. Does that mean I'm not allowed to have any fun anymore?"

'Of course not. You have all the fun you want.'

He holds his cigarette away from them and leans down to kiss her, the arm around her shoulders keeping her close.

'Just not on my account.'

She hums against his lips, her eyes falling closed for a brief moment.

"You are my account, caro. They hurt you, they hurt me. But if you want, I'll leave it. That is, right until I catch him alone and then I'm making his skull into an ashtray."

Her tone is nothing but sweetness and light as she speaks.

'Missed the action that much? Next time I'll make sure they hit me somewhere else.'

OK, making light of it might not be the best course to take - and he does appreciate the sentiment. He just doesn't like anyone fighting his battles for him.

'He's a tough guy. He'd hurt you before you killed him, then he'd just come back and I'd have to kill him again in retribution. It'd get boring, after a while.'
