Mary has mostly abandoned the idea of becoming a spy for England and sowing misinformation in Germany over the next four years. (Mostly. Not entirely.)
Still, that doesn't mean certain information won't be useful. Like German grammar; like the geography of France; like details of the latest arms developments in European nations, technologically speaking. Mary hasn't decided yet how she's going to make a difference, but she knows she can, and knowledge is power.
(Some of these things are easier to find out than others, but fortunately Bar has been helpful in the matter of textbooks.)
