There are many doors in Camelot, and Merlin is still learning which one is which.

So when he opens one and sees . . . this place, at first he thinks it's another dining room.

But once he steps inside and the door closes behind him, it feels ... different.

"Er," says Merlin and shifts from foot to foot uncomfortably.

Finally someone who looks like they might be from home, Sameth, who's now dirtier after helping Teja in the forge walks over to Merlin,

"Hello. Did you come from the Old Kingdom?"

He's in a good quality but dirty linen shirt with good breeches and a knife at his belt, the Charter Mark on his forehead is just visible under his hair.

"The ... old kingdom? I'm from Camelot. It's rather new. Ish. I mean, Uther's been king for as long as I've been alive ..."

Sameth frowns at him,

"My father, King Touchstone the first is king. I've never heard of Camelot."

This place is just confusing.

"Well, I've never heard of King Touchstone, so we're even.

"I'm Merlin," he adds. "I'm a bit lost."

"I'm Sameth. I'm really sure what this place is, but the smith is nice and let me help him."

[dragonsemrys]

"There's a smith," says Merlin. "That's ... homey."

"He let me help him."

The smith at home worries too much about Sameth getting hurt to let him help a lot.

"Yes, you mentioned that. Is that not normal?"

Sam looks awkward,

"Mother worries that I might hurt myself, but I know how to be careful and I like making things."

[dragonsemrys]

"Princes do tend to hurt themselves," Merlin remarks. "The one I look after is always haring off to fight something."

[makesthings]

"I'll fight the Dead when I'm older."

[dragonsemrys]

This gets a moment of "..." from Merlin.

"Will you," he says.

[makesthings]

"Yes, I'll be Abhorsen after Mother. What does your prince fight? Does he come here?"

Sameth peers around Merlin just in case Arthur might suddenly appear.

[dragonsemrys]

"I don't know what Abhorsen is.

"He fights, you know, creatures. Evil knights. The usual. I have no idea if he comes here--if he does he's never said so to me. Of course, I've not been in his employ long."

[makesthings]

"She keeps the Dead down. Oh, that sounds kind of exciting."

[dragonsemrys]

Merlin frowns at him, perplexed. "So where you live, the dead rise frequently? Instead of just ... staying dead?"
