Jack's been sticking close to his room the last few days, except for the occasional trip down to the bar--mainly to see if Carl or Beckett were around--or the occasional target practice session when it feels like the walls are closing in on him.

After hearing about Carl and Trudy getting involved, it's been hard not to think about his last ( Read more... )

Spring's meant to be hopeful, sadly in Nottingham, it just means more trouble.

Will walks outside, because he's tired and bruised, the hunters are coming back and stops when he sees Jack,

"Forgive me, didna see ye there. I'll leave ye."

Jack shakes his head. Not the other guy's fault he didn't see Jack; Jack was trying not to be noticed. "It's all right. There's a lot of space out here. Will Scarlett, right?"

"Oh aye, that's me. Jack Bauer, aye?"

Will has a growing bruise on the side of his face and he's walking stiffly, quarter staff fights are not gentle things.

"Yeah. You all right?" Jack asks, noticing that Will is moving somewhat awkwardly.

Ava Wilson comes out of the woods in a slightly ragged pair of jeans and a t-shirt. She smells faintly of sulfur, and a little more strongly of pine, dirt, and assorted leaves.

Her smile when she sees Jack is bright and friendly.

"Good call," she approves, of the bottle.

Jack gives her a tight smile. "Well it is a bar."

Oh noes.

Is it something she said? Is it her hair?

"That's true," she agrees cautiously. Normally she wouldn't bother investigating, but there are an awful lot of reasons for strangers to dislike her these days (if they know a few of her friends).

"... Sorry if this seems-- nosy," she says.

"Are you okay?"

It's not her; even on better days than this he doesn't smile, not really. Not with something else colouring the expression.

"I take it if I say I'm fine, it won't be very convincing," he says, that smile turning a little wry. Sitting outside and drinking generally isn't something someone who's just fine does. "I'm Jack, by the way."

Jack would be doing the same thing, if it was possible at this point. Ever since the door reappeared for him, he's been increasingly aware of it.

He's noticed the girl sitting on the rock, and he glances over again as he refills his glass. She doesn't seem like a threat, but it's hard to turn off the instinct to watch anyone around him, especially at night.

Jack looks down to pour his drink, then looks back up, the motion he'd caught with his eyes registering in his head. He hesitates for a moment--not sure he wants to get involved--but that part of him that can't just walk away speaks up.

"Hey. You sure you want to be doing that?"

"If I'd known we were drinking, I would've brought one for myself."

Beckett joins him on the grass, leaning back on her hands, her gaze drifting out towards the stilled surface of the lake.

"A bottle or a glass? Because you don't really need a glass," Jack says, holding out the bottle.

"Maybe not," she admits, allowing herself a tiny grin as she meets him halfway for the bottle.

"You picked a good spot. I keep telling myself I need to come out here more often."

"Wanted someplace quiet. This has a good view and it's out of the way." It's also fairly sheltered from view of the bar, not that that stopped her from finding him, obviously. "How're things going outside?"
