First entrance

What a day, what a day, what an absolutely glorious day. Finally something to do! Retirement does not sit well with the salarian temperament at all, especially not after a lifetime of busy-busy-busy. It's been months since the last meeting of the project crews. Months. That's long enough to go positively insane from idleness. Good thing there's so ( Read more... )

The self-monologue gets one Turian's attention. He recognizes that voice. It belongs to a certain Salarian doctor on Omega who was OK with treating a few members of the Turian's team when the damage was worse than medigel and teeth-gritting could handle.

He has been calibrating his rifle, which he collapses and holsters on his back. He takes another gulp of his drink.

"Hey Doc," he rumbles from a shadowy table nearby, "factor me into your analysis, will you?"

!

Mordin swings around on one foot to face the speaker, the length of the gesture more than enough in which to recall what he knew of the turian's identity. "Vakarian. Hadn't expected to see you again. Not without significant dent in criminal population, anyway." His mouth twitches briefly in a suppressed smile. "Certainly not here. Then again- didn't expect here, either. Location considerably larger than anywhere mapped on level of Omega I just left. No sign of batarian presence, no asari, no other turians apparent- would say this isn't Omega at all if asked, frankly."

He'll probably remember to ask if Garrus knows what's going on at some point. Probably.

Garrus is having a good time.

"If you look hard enough, you'll see some species you haven't seen before too," Garrus says, watching with interest for the doctor's reaction.

"Indeed." Mordin turns a little, eyeing the rest of the room speculatively. "Staff apparently composed of intelligent rodents. Don't recall seeing bipedal aquatic types anytime recently." He pauses, sniffing the air. "Doesn't smell familiar, either. Smells like- hm. Human cuisine? Possibly. Would fit with the population, majority of which looks too clean for Omega."

Data is sitting at a nearby table reading a data pad, but looks up when he notices the life form that walks through the door.

"Hello," he greets.

Hm. Looks human enough, certainly doesn't map out to any other known species-

"Greetings! Didn't expect anything on this order. Certainly didn't notice space anything like this on my omnitool map. Might I ask establishment's name, or who operates it?"

"This place is called Milliways," Data answers. "Am I correct in assuming that this is the first time you have been here?"

Mordin nods rapidly. "Still relatively new to Omega in general," he notes. "Was under the impression all major spaces within the station already accounted for on the map. Obviously incorrect assumption- although beginning to suspect something significantly more complicated than bad spatial allocation at work."

River's nose twitches at the new scent. Something about this creature immediately registers as academic. Medical, perhaps. Certainly, he seems to appreciate a certain clinical observation.

"I'm sure your information isn't faulty for your own local area. But I'm afraid you're not on your station any more. Welcome to Milliways."

"Hardly my station. Aria would spontaneously combust if she heard that," Mordin comments, turning to face the speaker. "Unlikely anyone on Omega prone to make comment even figuratively. Simply not done. Implication is that yes, no longer on Omega- does not answer question, however. If not Omega, then where? Assuming 'Milliways' the name of the establishment, of course. Unlikely to be station or ship name, most assuredly not in planetary catalogue of charted worlds."

"It's an interdimensional location, actually. The best I can surmise, we're in a quantum bubble outside of normal physical and temporal universe. Universes, really. Your universe and my universe may not be the same at all."

"There's good news, however. First drink is on the house."

She grins at him and gives a cheeky wink.

"Biggest quantum bubble on record," says Mordin after an eyeblink's consideration. "Can't recall last time I heard of any such development in physical sciences. Even Protheans incapable of this level of distortion beyond effects achievable with mass relays. Mechanism for production must be incredible. Assume there's more to the facility than this? Unlikely to exert so much effort to violate ordinary rules of space and time purely to provide free drinks."
