"So long as you aren't handling the drinks we should be golden."
Or, you know, not. Jo'll find out sooner or later.
She doesn't look concerned about her ten-year-old cotender.

Blame the swear jar.
Dean scrubs one hand through his hair, smile half-leaving his face when he catches sight of Jo.
"Uh. Hey, Jo."
So this is awkward.
Reply
"You know Jo?"
That's wonderful. They're like her two favorite people here, and they know each other!
"I'm helping Jo tend bar!"
(What, you thought you were the only one who got to be a bad influence, Dean?)
Reply
At least Anna had started with talking? Exuberantly.
"Hey." Swallow it down. "You want a beer or a drink?"
Reply
Maybe awkward ain't the right word.
"You got any recommendations, kid?"
When in doubt, pull in the tiny redhead. She'll totally save him.
Right?
Reply
"I can't have them, because I'm only ten, but I think Party Girl has a nice name.
"You could try one of those."
Reply
Anna's adorable obliviousness for the save.
Especially when Jo can't quite not-smile at the choice.
Both the name and what Anna's going to make him drink.
Jo got the shaker and snaked two bottles of the side.
Trying not to blurt the first question in her head.
There was Anna and the bar itself.
"How's everything? Sam?"
Reply
Dean would hate his life, but at least they're not talking about kissing boys this time.
(He will never get over that. Never.)
"Things're -- okay. I guess."
He doesn't wince.
"Have you, uh. Talked to your mom lately?"
Reply
And wanders off to the other end of the bar.
Reply
At least there's still a bar there?
Jo's fingers uncurled from being a vice.
She poured a double of vodka, being nice.
Easier to move her hands if she had talk sans-child.
"One of our friends here told me about the bar."
Friends isn't anywhere near friendly.
"Dark hair, little black dress. Only too glad to help."
She knows already, Dean. Thanks for playing this game.
She'd like to not want to drink her wares this early tonight.
Reply
"Well, fuck."
There's a lot about all that Jo said that Dean's ignoring.
He's got to.
(At least he thinks he does.)
"You holdin' up?"
And the rest of it ain't something they're going to talk about, right?
Having a drink in hand will help with that. A lot.

Jo moved without quite looking at his face.
"Called, no one answered. Drove by..."
An image to scourged from her brain at any cost.
Instead of lingering on it, she makes her mouth open.
"Stole an inconclusive coroners report." Another thing not to forget.
She didn't really ever answer his question, did she.
Reply
Thank God for that.
"But, uh. Ash -- "
He doesn't really need to say anything else, does he?
Don't answer that.
"'m sorry, Jo."
Reply
It is bright blue. And shaped like a dolphin.
She looks from Dean to Jo and back.
"Are you okay?"
Reply
It's not even a word. Her jaw doesn't even tighten.
The only reason it doesn't fall is that her knuckles turned white on it the next instant.
If she's tried to contain everything else, this failed.
On contact. With her head. With her chest.
With breathing. And with talking.
She'd almost stopped hoping. Her mom.
Reply
"Just give her a second. And maybe -- "
Oh god, someone somewhere is gonna owe him for this.
"Maybe you can mix me up something to drink. Minus the alcohol, you know?"
He doesn't wince.
"There's gotta be some stuff behind the bar for that."
Reply
"I can do that.
"It's okay so long as I don't use any alcohol, I think."
So many bottles to pick from!
