Gibbs is not happy. The Bar wants him to pay his tab. A simple thing, really, seeing as how he left some ill gotten gain from a trip to another world hidden outside (don't ask where, since he's not telling). But just because he can pay doesn't mean he will. It's a matter of principle. What kind of pirate would he be if he paid ( Read more... )

He looks like a sea-robber with a problem, to Teja.

"Greetings," the Goth says, passing by, but stopping for a moment to find out what is the matter.

"You're...Teja, right?" He would hoist a cup in greetings, only...

"I am," Teja says. "And you are Gibbs, a god-fearing pirate from the world that gave us the Turners and Norrington, also. And the Caribbean inlet of the lake."

"Formerly of the inlet. More recently of the Caribbean proper." At least Teja seems well informed, for what that is worth.

"So you all have gone back to your worlds?" Teja asks. "I have noticed that I have not seen any of you recently."

"We come here from time to time. Mister Captain Turner's ship rises from the depths as it pleases him. And Mrs Captain Turner and I will find our way here if the timing is right." Or, in Gibbs' case, when he needs a break from the crew of the Empress. "But no, we don't make our homes here any longer. Which suits me fine." He wonders if their time on the lake is included in the tab.

"I have not seen him in a long while," Teja says, "nor played the organ upon his vessel. But it is good to hear they both fare well. Theirs is a very moving and heart-rending tale."

"She's with child," he notes. "Any day now." A state of affairs that still leads Gibbs to seek the solace of rum.

Why is the rum gone? Oh yes, the tab.

"Any chance you have a coin to lend a pirate for the day?"

"Of course," Teja says. He walks to the bar, and returns with one of the silver coins of his lost realm.

Two of them bought him his guitar, in the New Orleans of the future. But he doubts that Gibbs' world holds many that would collect historic coins.

"What need have you for it?" he says, handing it to the pirate.

"Bar called in the tabs. She's not serving me until I pay. And that is not something I can easily do at the moment." Which isn't untrue. He cannot bring himself to pay.

He orders as much rum as the silver can get. Which is, thankfully, a lot.

"So you would drink to the child of your captains?" Teja says. "I would drink to that, also: - they have my fellow-feeling for their predicament, and I would congratulate them for having achieved that much, nevertheless."

"Aye, I would drink to that. To the health of child and mother both. And to the continued safety of all the Turners." A tinge of worry passes over Gibbs' face right before the rum passes over his lips.

Teja steps over to the bar and gets himself a cup of well-watered red wine.

"I drink to that, also!" he says, doing so. "Why would you be worried for their safety, more than usual?"

"The crew is not precisely pleased to have a captain with child. I cannot say it surprises me, but it does not do much for discipline, especially among men who don't care much for discipline in the best of circumstances.

"The captain, she went so far as to hire a ninja to guard her. Unseen, of course." Which is the best way to do it, seeing as how you want to avoid confrontation most time.

"A ninja might be a good option against a horde of unruly pirates," Teja says. "Did she find him -- or her -- in this place?"

"Aye. The brother of the cursed Barman, in fact. But a man nothing like the Barman." He's not pregnant, for one thing.
