The cinnamon rolls and other trays of Sunshine's delicious creations are safely in the oven, so Rae has taken the opportunity to catch some of the rays of the late February sunlight. The air at the Caribbean inlet is warm enough for her to feel all right taking off her coat and letting the sunlight shine down on her for a while, even though it's ( Read more... )

When her eyes catch the sight of someone swimming, Sunshine merely watches him quietly as she stands in the sunshine, letting the brightness and tentative warmth seep into her skin.

When he settles on the beach, though, she makes her way over.

"It's warm enough to swim in?" Sunshine asks, lightly. "I guess I shouldn't be surprised."

Even Sunshine must admit that Ganymede's collection of bruises are much more spectacular than hers. She's been getting used to her wonky vision, thankfully.

"At least it's warm enough here that one doesn't freeze upon getting out of the water, either," she says. Milliways is weird.

Sunshine tends to get hers by running into things: counters; doorframes; walls (thanks, Con!). Not that enjoyable, no.

"That's good," she smiles down at him, letting her eyes run over the pale edges to the afternoon shadows cast by his face. "Though I'm not at liberty to indulge, right now, even if I felt like swimming. I have to be back in the kitchen in about twenty minutes. The cinnamon rolls will be ready."

She's just soaking, right now. Soaking in the sunlight.

Sunshine may be a nickname, but it is quite true, all the same.

Ganymede's name reminds her of the strange names of Yolande's cohorts; she's half-tempted to ask him if he's a wardskeeper. But if he were, the shadows he casts wouldn't look like that, so she doesn't ask.

"Nice to meet you, Ganymede," she says, grinning.

The question gets her to blink, focusing on his face rather than the shadows that lie across his face from the fall of wet hair on his forehead.

"What?"

"Oh! Um. Sorry about that."

"Your shadows were just... interesting, and I guess I got distracted. I've not seen any like them. Their edges are paler than the shadows themselves, and they shine, occasionally, when you move."

"Hey, it's just what I see," she says, just a little sharp. "I c'n see into shadows, and see the shadows within them. Your shadows cast shadows paler than themselves, and the edges of them shine a bit, but just when you move."

"It means... you're not... human in the regular way. Or something. It's never clear."

She's only had a little while and a few opportunities to try and figure out what these things are trying to tell her.
