The not-really-a-squid has not gone home. Someone showed it the way to the garage. It's been busy, oh, yes, it's been busy. Antique technology from another race entirely, stuff so old even ONI couldn't possibly think it a risk to let the creature play with it- volatile organic compounds! They used hydrocarbons as fuel! Well, most of them, anyway, there were so very many vehicles down there that it hasn't investigated anything even close to all of them yet...

At any rate, the squid creature spent most of the night in the garage, disassembling and reassembling everything it could get its tentacles on that didn't sound an alarm or otherwise drive it off. It put it all back together exactly the way it found it, of course, with the exception of removing wastes and cleaning out excessive rust and corrosion. It's only courtesy to improve the performance of a machine you've learned from, after all. The creature is upstairs now, exhausted and grimy but very satisfied with what it's learned of obsolete technology, and it's getting a big bowl of ... well, some kind of stick-and-lump concoction with bright blue sauce. It might possibly be a salad, if one squints.

Oh, and this being the creature's nature, it's brought up a particularly intriguing derailleur assembly to fiddle with, in much the same way that a human might idly toy with a stress ball in one hand while paying attention to something else. So! Many! Old! Things!
