Shufti reviewed her notebook before going on patrol again. So far her notes are fairly short and not very useful.

"Greetings," Teja says, when he sees her lurking. He is coming up from his forge-work and smells of sweat and smoke, so makes no pretence of hiding.

Shufti jumps nonetheless. She'd smelt him, but not worked out who he was yet.

"Teja." She acknowledges. "I hope you're not doing anything silly like lurking looking for the vampire."

Yes this is what she's doing, but she has a shiny badge on.

"No," Teja says, "I have been working steel today. But you are hunting the monster, are you not?"

"Yes." Shufti says. "As before. I'm sorry we haven't found it yet."

No signs of struggle.

However there seems to be an odd draft, a cold wind that makes the hair on the back of the neck stand up.

Shufty comes upon a series of burned out light fixtures, leaving a long stretch of corridor completely in the dark.

That's weird.

Shufti gets a torch out of her pocket and examines the light fixture. Some sort of electrical fault?

She makes a mental note to report it, after checking the spelling of 'electrical'.

The shadows pool around her, inky black tendrils seeping along the baseboards and wending around her ankles. Unfortunately, they don't seem to be having the intended effect.

The shadows stand back and wait for her to finish examining the light. They cross their arms and sigh with exasperation as she gets her notes in order.

That done, they get back to the serious business of atmospheric menacing.

Shufti tucks her notebook away, looking down for a moment to put it in her pocket.

The shadows look like they're around her feet, which is odd. She frowns and steps back.

Suddenly not liking the feel of the place, she gets her crossbow out, makes sure the dictophone is recording, and advances along the darkened corridor.
