His whole life, he hasn't stayed at a place as long as he's stayed at this one. Sure, he's moved around and sure, there was that couple of unexpected years on Earth, but hell, that's par for the damn course. He'll go wherever the winds take him... or at least that's what he used to say. That's when it was all just about him, but things aren't like that any more. There's Beth and Junior, and he's still teaching Ingress, and even though people have come and gone -- he's come and gone, changed in so many ways -- he likes it here. It works.
So it's only fitting that after five years -- more than five years now, not that he's keeping track or anything -- he finally, finally takes a shift behind the bar. One time only; he can test his own drink-making skills. Since he's big on the ones that go best with cigarettes (isn't that what drinks were made for?), he picks a few things he knows how to make, writing them up on the board in his little-used scrawl.
Tonight's specials: Beth's favorites
Chocolate Martini Venusian Chocolate Champagne Sour Apple MartiniYeah, that's almost legible. He lights himself a smoke, familiarizes himself with the layout back here. Where he's from, being a bartender is like wearing a target that says SHOOT ME in big red letters. Right about now, he's pretty damn thankful for the whole no-violence-in-the-bar rule.
Edited to add: Calling a halt to happy hour for tonight. Thanks, everyone, will pick up all threads as slowtime unless you'd rather fade.
