The fire is tall and high and in the sand with driftwood and other wood beside it so it can be built up as the night grows darker.

Teja stands by the bonfire, brooding quietly.

One year ago, he was by a bonfire also, speaking to Charlie whom he then barely knew; but one year ago, it was Atton's birthday, not a wake.

Teja is thinking of Charlie, of Atton, and of Doc who was just another guest, then. He sighs, deeply.

Pause.

"I saw Ramon Salazar the other day, a free man. That is wrong."

"Doc is not merely dead, he was murdered," Teja says, grimly, "and while we grieve, we also thirst for revenge on his behalf!"

"Justice for a murdered man always means revenge upon the murderer, as there is no way to make amends to him otherwise," Teja says.

He takes a long drink of rum, the ache of where Doc should be won't be filled easily by more death. Will's watched enough men die so the Sheriff can has his revenge, it doesn't feel right for Doc.

Teja bends, and throws another log into the fire.

"It is wrong," he repeats, sighing deeply. "But I shall seek justice."

Pause.

"Is it not Atton's birthday, also?"

"Dinna 'member, should ask 'im when 'e gets 'ere. Oh aye, tis wrong."

"If this is December fourth, as I think it is," Teja says, "then yes, indeed, it is his birthday; and we should not ask him, should greet him saying that we are sorry that there is a wake on his birthday this year. After all, the point of last years bonfire was to prove to him that we would not forget."

Atton can be complicated; Teja can handle complicated.

"Atton likes cake," Teja says. "Else I would say, give him drink like all else at the wake, and make sure he knows we like him and think of him."

Will nods and heads towards Bar, soon returning to place a cake on the table.
