If anyone cared to look, this sunny afternoon, they might find Lord Peter out on the banks of the lake. Golf club in hand, he is kitted out in full 1920's golfing regalia; ridiculous trousers, high socks, saddle shoes, sweater-vest, and jaunty cap.

Ha!

He swings at a ball tee'd up on the bank, and it flies out over the lake, landing with a quiet "plop" in the water. Immediately there is an enormous ripple, which resolves itself into the giant squid, golf ball gently cradled in one enormous tentacle as it flings the ball back at him. He catches it, tees it up, and hits it again.

Slice! Curse it.

A different tentacle returns the ball once more, this time coming close enough for Peter to give it a grateful pat.

Yes, you are indeed the very best squid that has ever fetched golf balls for me. Are you ready?

The thwack of driver on ball, plop of ball in water, and swish of the giant squid's movements can be heard all through the afternoon.
