The days in Milliways are long and dull for the new girl who hasn't made any real connections yet. She finds herself with a lot of free time to kill- something that Helena isn't used to at all. So she does what any good vigilante does when faced with endless days of captivity: she trains. A lot. Currently you can find her outside by the lake, doing ( Read more... )

Inara, in riding pants and a jacket, is walking a horse around the lake. She loves the changing leaves of Milliways in the fall, since she never sees them anymore.

The horse whinnies softly as they approach the masked woman. Inara offers her a smile. "Wèi!"

Helena stops in the middle of a move and breaks her routine to watch the horse and rider approach.

"Hello."

"Sorry to get in your way," Inara murmurs as she dismounts, coming to stand nearer to the other woman. "This is just Tequila's usual route."

"No, that's fine," Helena says. She reaches up a hand to stroke the horse's nose. "Your horse is beautiful."

"My husband's," Inara smiles, pushing her hair behind her ear. "But thank you. I live in space most of the time, so the time here, in the autum weather and...with a horse. It feels good."

Believe it or not, Mal does actually look in on Tequila.

There is just an extra draw when he knows Inara will be with him.

...and a lady in a mask.

"Didn't bring enough for everyone," Mal notes with a smile for his own interruption, showing the three apples in his hands.

One has to share with the horse, you see.

Helena looks between the woman and the newcomer.

"This is your husband?" she asks the woman.

"Yes," She laughs, taking an apple from him. "Thank you. This is Mal. Mal this is--"

She breaks off, realizing they haven't introduced themselves yet. "Sorry, I'm Inara."

"Didn't introduce yourself, did you? Lao po we've got to work on your manners," Mal laughs.

"Hello," he offers to the other woman, holding up one apple to the horse and his to the newcomer. "You are?"

"I'm Huntress," she says, but she declines the apple with a shake of her head. She won't eat until she's finished her work-out and warmed down.

"We had only just met," Inara shoots Mal a look before nudging him carefully with her elbow.

Her bangles jingle as she strokes Tequila's mane. "Tequila and I merely wandered into her exercise regiment."

"[And her random mask time?]" Mal mumbles indistinctly before smiling again.

"Tequila does always go after the pretty ones."

She raises an eyebrow at the comment but doesn't mention it. Still, she's confused: she's not used to men commenting on how pretty she is without them wanting something from her.

"I was just saying before you arrived," she says to Mal, "Tequila is a beautiful animal.

How do you manage keep him in space though?" she asks curiously.

"We don't. He stays here."

Not that livestock hasn't graced the cargo bay of Serenity at some point or other.

"Only fair that he be the one who gets to see and feel the fresh air all the time." Inara laughs. "We're much better suited for space, than he is."

"In my experience, humans aren't much suited for space either."

She'd go crazy of she had to spend too much time in the JLA watchtower.
