Happy Hour

Oct 20, 2009 18:45

Sameth's been in the forge all morning and just wanted to grab some food and sit by the fire when Bar gave him the note.

So with a laugh, he began to look through the cocktail book and soon writes some specials up while the rats give him a sandwich.

"I knew a man who I think qualifies as a king," says the man in the t-shirt and loose karate pants.

"What makes you only think?"

"He took control of his country by force, so not a hereditary ruler. But he was absolute ruler, and seemed to think of himself as a king and not as anything else." Not that he ever asked Black Adam about this.

"Did he call himself a king?"

There's a laugh as someone appears in a bar seat. Not a particularly friendly laugh, accompanying a very toothy grin.

"Kid, let me tell you about the royalty in my world."

Sameth's face just falls,

"The last drink lights on fire."

"I'll take it-" he says, continuing without pausing, "-and did I ever tell you about your old great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great grand-uncle King Anstyr the Third? Great man with the ladies, he was-"

Only Yrael pronounces it lay-deez.

"-I suppose they found his odd sense of humor to be charming."

This spells nothing good for any story that might follow.

Luckily the Dragon's Breath only has two ingredients since Sameth is making it as quickly as he can,

"Do you want to set it on fire?"

"Any recommendations?"

"I haven't tried any of them yet but the last one gets set on fire."

"Set on fire."

"Yes, I'll show you."

The drink itself is simple just two ingredients and then he adds a small Charter Mark and it lights.

"Could I get a quarter inch rivet while you tell me about those specials?" asks a well dress man holding his right forearm carefully. The arm is also pointed down and away from anyone.

"Of course, give me one moment to find it."

Sameth usually has his tools not too far away and with some searching, he hands over the rivet.

"You know I'm glad you had this," Artemus replies with a smile. "I forget that I can't always get whatever I want if someone is behind the bar.

"Okay this might go off but I don't think so," Artemus continues with a nod to his arm. He then releases his hold and a mechanism springs forth with a small derringer attached to a tray that normally locks into position right at the wearers hand. Unfortunately the tracks are missing a rivet so a spring shoots out and the tray the derringer is on falls to the floor. Fortunately, it doesn't go off and Artemus bends to pick it up.

Removing the bullets, says completely causal, "Sorry about that. Had to block a knife and that always causes some kind of mishap."

While he works, Sameth just watches,

"Its still in pretty good shape though so shouldn't be too hard to fix."

"It's something of an odd question to answer, for my world," remarks Felix. "Our mayors generally inherit their positions, and some of them have taken to calling themselves 'Lord So-and-so', but I don't think any of them were specifically ennobled by anyone. Royalty is at least somewhat more clear-cut, since I know King Hydros's line has ruled Lemuria for millennia. I've never found out much about Babi, but I think he was a self-proclaimed emperor."

After a moment, he adds, "But the most noble man I know claims no real title."

"Oh, what makes him so noble and what would you like to drink?"

"I'm not sure, exactly. He's a great leader, but... Mostly, I think, it's that he gave up his human form for an ability that lets him greatly help his pack."

Felix considers the second question. "Warm pineapple juice, I think."

"It might take a bit while I find that. What form does he have now?"

Sameth asks as he looks through the huge juice collection.
