She got a wide smile and another finger-waggling wave as Kitt mouthed at her, "Hi! Hi there!" just like a parent long-used to such things. The game of entertain-the-baby was well known by now.

"Whaddaya see, Mairi?" Bob follows his daughter's gaze and smiles. "Oh, hey, Kitt! What's processing?"

Kitt gave him a smile as well, then held up the book - What To Expect On A Cruise Around The World. "I've got a long vacation coming up, whether I want it or not. ...And honestly, I think I want it for once.

"How are you and your family?"

"Not bad, all things considered... did I tell you that AndrAIa's pregnant?"

"I hadn't known, but that's wonderful! Send along my congratulations!" Kids. He'd had to get used to the idea, but now, kids were the best thing in the world to him.

"I will," promises Bob. "Matrix has been babysitting Mairi a lot to get in practice..."

"I wish I'd had practice." He laughed gently, smiling at Mairi. "I still remember Brigid being that age..."

"She probably didn't have a habit of flying up into the light fixtures and getting stuck there," says Bob wryly. "We're trying to teach her to only fly when she's in a harness, but..."

"...I'm suddenly glad that my own troubles with my children didn't involve flying. Just that one of them really had to wear clothes, and that another wasn't supposed to eat the sandbox, and that another isn't allowed to ... well. That's a subject better covered another time." He smiled a bit sheepishly.

"...what, the whole sandbox??"

"Oh heavens, no," Kitt blurted, laughing. "She wanted to see what the sand tasted like, that's all. And while I'm sure Michael would've let her if it was clean sand, I happen to know that humans, or humanoids, don't have gizzards."

Bob grimaces. "Mairi eats enough without her trying out stuff like that."

"Brigid was curious." Kitt chuckled. "And... well, they've only now started to offer foods that are both interesting and healthy for children. ...At least we introduced her to produce from the garden early. If you ever happen to want cucumber, let me know - we always end up with more than we want."

"Sprites can't eat human foods," Bob reminds Kitt. "But I'll keep that in mind. We're just starting Mairi on solid foods..."

"...Good God, I really need this vacation," Kitt exhaled. "I can't believe the things that keep coming at the edge of my memory. I'm sorry, Bob, I shouldn't have forgotten that." He reached up, lightly touching his new scar with a slight frown. "Still have a bit of healing to do."

Bob frowns. "What happened?"
