Odetta wanders over to say hello to Dr. Sandhu, but is sidetracked by the pizza. She's never seen anything like that before.

Is it food? It smells nice.

"Of course, take as much as you want. We have four cheese, pepperoni, ham and pineapple or vegetarian. How are you doing?"

"Thank you," she says.

She's not quite sure how to manage it--she takes a paper plate and a fork along with a slice of cheese, and begins to cut pieces, a little awkwardly. "I'm all right. The witch was gone, it was nice. But she came back."

"She's a witch," Odetta says, very seriously. "She's horrid."

"She broke all the windows when she came back. She spent all day throwing rocks."

"Who looks after her at home?" he asks. "Does anyone hit her?"

What a horrible thought. "I don't think so."

The idea that the wicked witch might have parents is very unsettling.
