It's been a year for him, and it shows, if you met him before. He's far more muscular from the training he's been doing and currently, the muscles are accentuated still further from hunger. But it's self-imposed this time, rather than just from being unable to afford food.

He's seen a lot, learnt a lot and is tired, of many things. And this means he ( Read more... )

Knox is seated at the bar, reviewing some notes on the serial killer stalking Gotham. Not exactly fun stuff, but it's what news. He nods at the man, who bears a vague resemblance to that guy from the world with all the dragons.

He nods back with a small, tired smile.

"Working? I guess this place is good for it."

What with time tending to stop on the outside of the door and everything.

"Yeah, I can get a good cup of coffee and clear my head for a while. Or just do nothing and miss my deadline." He in fact has a cup even as we speak.

"You're a writer?"

He looks the man over and changes his mind immediately.

"Journalist?"

They all seem to have a certain look about them.

There's a red-head not too awfully far from him, also thinking. Her long legs are crossed at the knee as she reclines in a seat.

"You wouldn't happen to have a lighter, would you?"

He shakes his head, lifting his glass to drink.

"Sorry, no. I don't smoke."

She nods and waves over a waitrat for a refill of butane for her lighter, and a cup of coffee.

"It was worth a shot I guess," she says, not deterred in the slightest. "Edie Sedgwick."

A hand gets stretched toward him.

He takes the hand politely, wondering what exactly she was taking a shot at.

"Bruce Wayne. Good to meet you."

Add in one more person using the bar as a bit of a respite, although in her case it's more of a respite from an unreasoning kind of phobia more than anything else. Ellen's just come in from a walk with her dog, still a little surprised at how easy it seems to walk under an open sky. The Window, now-

The Window's on a much grander scale than the biggest explosion she's ever personally seen, but it does remind her of that, somewhat. It's a good thing to stop and see.

(Dogmeat thinks it is vastly overrated and is looking for somewhere he can lie down and chew on his rawhide.)

Bruce smiles and leans down to pet the dog. He knows it's not usually sensible to approach a strange dog but he shows no trepidation.

"Quite a sight, isn't it?" he says, seemingly to the dog but actually to it's owner.

"Oh, yes," says Ellen, as Dogmeat lifts his head to sniff the stranger's hand. It's an acceptable hand and it's not threatening him or his human, so he's going to let the petting happen. "Like something out of the really fancy old vids, or the comic books, only huge and real."

"What do you class as 'old'?"

It might not be the same as what he thinks.

The water is surprisingly popular in that part of the Bar, today - though, in the case of the pre-teen with the eye-patch also off by the Window, it's only because he hasn't convinced himself that the rest of this place's fare is trustworthy, yet.

Regardless, he's people-watching at the moment, more careful observation than lazing curiosity. He's still not sure what to make of Milliways' clientele. Some of them are almost disturbingly out of place, and then you have the ones like the lean, brown-headed guy nearby, who look perfectly normal in a pub-type scene...

Ciel isn't exactly staring.

Bruce's eyes flick to him, then away and he seems to be lost in his thoughts, and the view for a few moments. But he's really wondering what the boy is so interested in.

Eventually he sighs and looks over.

'You OK?'

"Mm?"

There's a quick blink and a flash of evident displeasure on his face, before he twitches his head downward in a tense, awkward nod.

"Yes - I'm fine."

He pauses, then replies with a sigh of his own.

"I apologize. I'm still getting used to this place and its customers. I didn't mean to distract anyone."

"It's fine."

He smiles a little, polite.

"I'm pretty new too, if it makes you feel better. There's plenty going on here that I don't understand."

"You have been working," X says, approaching from the left.

She's very, very quiet -- at least when she is not purposefully making noise.

"It is okay?"

He didn't hear her coming, only aware of her when he saw movement in his eyeline.

"It's...okay."

He doesn't ask how she knew that, he supposes it's obvious. And he's tired. For the first time in a year, he's starting to wonder whether this is going to pay off.

"How are you?"

"I am okay."

X tilts her head very slightly, watching him. Sometimes people do not like questions.

"You missed the baseball game. I played."

Beat.

"There was a demon rabbit invasion. At the end."

"...what's a demon bunny?"

This is a more pertinent question than talking about baseball. Though, after a beat, he does add;

"Did you like it?"
