The new recruits finally rode out to the front not long ago. Hua was one of them. Of the lot, not one had ever so much as seen battle before, and when the Xiongnu attacked, it was bloody and merciless.

There aren't a lot of Xiongnu left near where Hua's unit was ordered to go. Plenty of funeral pyres, though.

Hua was going to go and celebrate with his compatriots (the ones still able to walk, at least) when the tent flap led here. Oh, well.
