Ben's first indication that something is different about Milliways is when he steps off of the entryway and onto the bar's proper floor. In the past the bar floor had no give yet today it shifts just the slightest bit.
Being a big guy like him you learn to instinctively recognize when the ground shifts and so Ben immediately steps back onto the entryway landing to see what is different. It is then that he notices the hole.
"Sweet Aunt Petunia, what the heck happened?" he exclaims to the bar at large. "An' how come there's no caution tape 'r chairs around that hole?"
Ben's a safety minded guy.
