Gibbs has sat himself upon his favorite boulder by the shore, where once he had a fine view of the Black Pearl, before it (and he) returned to the world. Things were simpler then. Jack was the captain, he was the boatswain, and the Pearl was home. Now? The Empress may be a fine ship, but she's not home. And Mrs Captain Turner, for all her unexpected skill, is with child, and heaven alone knows what that will mean. Yes, she says it won't change things, but Gibbs has his doubts. Even ignoring all his superstition about babes in arms aboard ships, he fully expects that things will not be as simple as his captain hopes they will be.
He pours himself a fresh cup of rum from the large bottle he acquired from the bar, and as he drinks looks out over the deceptively calm sea.
