[OOM: You can never escape your family. Tiny warning for references to the fact that sex and violence exist.]--but these are now not her mountains, wolf-Skaði realizes as she comes across a proper human path; the air tastes different, and there is no snow under her paws. Wary but not afraid, she moves toward the light she sees in the distance, ( Read more... )

Demeter is outside, surrounded by a small field of golden wheat, she's used up all her tears and the rain has finally abated. So she watches the wolf lope in from the forest and says in a small voice,

"Hello."

...she has been seen.

It doesn't frighten her--she doesn't look like a hunter, either--but one can never be too careful. Appearances can be deceiving, after all.

Wolf-Skaði edges off the path and watches, warily.

"I won't hurt you. I just wanted to be away from people for a time."

Demeter will never be a hunter, that is her niece's work, she is someone who helps things grow.

Well, she can understand that.

Time away from people is important. They're so noisy and impatient.

Wolf-Skaði continues to watch her, from beside the path.

Demeter has finished crying and for now she's just sitting.

...well, that doesn't look too dangerous.

She approaches, cautiously.

A bit big for a wolf, and with a thick winter coat of fur.

The rain is abating and Demeter gives a smile,

"Hello, are you hungry?"

She feels satisfied, thanks to the apple she had had back at the pub, so she isn't hungry again yet.

But she moves to sit nearby, giving a polite nod--not exactly a wolfish gesture.

Demeter reaches out a hand for a sniff and smiles, she smells of Summer and at the moment of the breaking of a Summer storm,

"I'm Demeter."

Summer.

She remembers a man--not exactly the same scent, of course; summer is different in their part of the world, much shorter and colder. But he had the scent of summer, intoxicating and dangerous, and she is reminded of him.

And she knows it would be impolite to let the conversation continue one-sided, so there is now a pale, light-haired woman in winter clothing sitting nearby.

"Skaði. A pleasure."

She is greeted with just as warm a smile,

"It is, do you often walk as a wolf?"

"Over long distances," she says with a nod. "I find it better suited than the human shape. Harder to track, also, but hunters can be a problem. There don't seem to be any here, from what I have seen."

"I know of few that would dare hunt wolves here since many other patrons shift their shapes with ease."

"That is a comfort, at least," she says. "Men with arrows I don't mind as much--that is at least sporting--but guns? And helicopters? Disgraceful."

"Men have always searched for new manners of destruction and respect has so little to do with it."

"They will destroy everything, given enough time," she says. "It is said that creation was flawed from the beginning, and I think the flaw is in mankind."
