Claire has not had a very good time of it recently, what with West and Peter and... West.

So though she won't admit it, it's probably a relief to have something to really get angry at, on reading the specials board.

"What the Hell?"

Justin looks around from where he's rearranging bottles. The automatic smile on his lips dies as he sees the face of the girl.

'Uh...what?'

"Is this supposed to be a joke?" Claire demands, waving angrily at the specials board.

Because it damn well isn't funny, and she's all set to take anger out on him.

He follows her hand to the board and then looks back at her.

'...no?'

What.

'I mean...I picked them because they're appropriate. I'm not laughing at anyone.'

Especially not West.

"You think it's appropriate to have a specials night because someone was murdered?" Claire repeats just to make sure she's got the right end of what he's saying.

"What kind of world are you from?"

If he were someone else - or in a particularly bitchy mood - he'd point out that worse things get joked about every night on Liberty Avenue and that is the world he comes from. The people he knows are self-centred enough to really not care when someone dies.

But. He's only like that sometimes and tonight is not one of those nights.

'I'm not having a specials night because he was murdered. I'm just...' taking art from life? He has no idea if that would be the wrong thing to say or not. '...keeping people's attention on the issue.'

"People's attention is on the issue," Claire snaps. "The people who count anyway. Didn't it occur to you that some people might not want to be reminded of it all the time?"

OK, that annoys him just a little. He frowns.

'Well, how am I supposed to know? This is a small bar and someone got murdered - really badly, by the sounds of it. It's kind of impossible to get away from.'

"I know," Claire says, seething a little. "I was there."

'...oh.'

OK. That's a little different.

'Um.

...sorry? Shit. I mean...I didn't think anyone - do you mean you were there when he died?'

Is she a suspect? Christ, he could be talking to a murdered.

"Not that it's any of your business,"

Which it isn't.

"...but I found his body."

Justin looks contrite for a moment.

'...was it gross?'

And Claire loses her shit again.

"What the Hell is wrong with you?"

This time there might be tears, but she sure as hell isn't going to admit to them.

He holds his hands up and looks genuinally sorry. He didn't mean to make her cry.

'I'm sorry. I'm sorry OK, I really am. That was really insensitive.'

He just couldn't help himself.

'I...fuck. I didn't mean to upset anyone. I just figured that...y'know, everyone's talking about it anyway, it couldn't hurt.'
