Johnny stopped by the Bar for some fried paradoxes and a beer. But instead he got a note on a napkin.

"Wait, you want me? Oh, all right. Sure. Enjoy your nap."

He saw about fixing up a sign.

An old man wanders up to the bar as the gentleman puts out the Specials board, hands stuffed deep in his pockets. He's wearing faded jeans, and a well-worn plaid flannel work shirt over a Virginia is for Lovers t-shirt.

He peers at the sign and eventually points with an amiable grin. "I sense a theme."

Johnny shrugged, and smiled, eyeing the shirt a little, "Sort, was checking the list back here, and looked promising." Virginia's ok, but Johnny's a Maine boy through and through.

He then added, "Anything look good?"

Earl's face scrunches up as he considers for a moment, slipping into a bar stool near the bartender's station.

"Got any rootbeer back there?"

Johnny glanced around, and got out a bottle.

"Frosty mug?"

You'd think the old man was twelve years old by the way his face lights up.

"That sounds delightful, why yes I believe I will."

He extends his hand in greeting. "You'll have to forgive my manners. Name's Earl."

Johnny took his hand, of course, alert against any visions he might receive on him.

"I'm John. How's it going?"

"Oh not so bad."

[ Fresh baked bread, cooling on a windowsill, dappled with shadow and sunlight, the scent mixing with the breeze, on the most beautiful warm spring morning ever recorded in the history of creation. ]

"How 'bout yourself?"

[ushouldcwhatic]

It was nice, a lot of his visions weren't so pleasant.

"Pretty good. Been taking it easy around here."

Still deciding on where to go from here. What's a seer to do when it seems like destiny's done with you?

Well, if Earl could tell him anything, he'd have to say that Destiny is never done with you.

"Taking it easy ain't a bad thing, no sir. But I bet this place will work your elbow real good." He gestures pulling a tap with a bit of a grin.

[ushouldcwhatic]

"Sure, but this is an one time deal. Bar just needed the break and asked me to take over for a few hours."

[longtonguedog]

"Well, lucky for me then." He eyes the frosty mug of rootbeer as Johnny slides it across the bar like it's a five scoop ice cream sundae.

"See? Everybody needs a little down time once in awhile. Maybe you've been putting off taking a vacation for so long, you forgot what it was you wanted to do when you had the time?"

Johnny wiped the condensation from his hands with a bar towel, and set it aside behind the bar again. He shifted his weight to left to right.

He then remarked, "Sort of had a six year vacation, but don't think that counts. I go hiking and camping nowadays where I can. Just thinking of where to next."

Earl nods, thoughtfully.

"Done much travelling?"

[ushouldcwhatic]

He shrugged, "A little? Both back home and in here." Usually because of following clues from his visions to figure out a puzzle or problem.

"You look like a man who's seen a lot."

Earl is not your usual rootbeer drinker.

[ushouldcwhatic]

Some would think too much, Johnny included at times.

"More than most," He admitted, eying the man back a little.
