Cubefall, day 2

May 28, 2009 12:51

There is a dragon outside!

It's a small dragon, which is to say, it's about the height of a tall human... at the shoulder. It is just flying in from the mountains, gliding (mostly) majestically over the trees.

Come admire his reptilian grace! Ask for a ride, if you're not too heavy!

Or bring him some food. That would be very welcome, too.

And in the skies along with the young dragon, there's a red-and-silver sort-of-cat-shaped robot ship.

Over the comm link, there's a "Hello there! Haven't seen you before!" to be heard.

"Rad?" Enzo hollers back. "Is that you? You're a giant flying robo-cat!"

Neat!

Before Rad can speak up, there's a second voice Enzo might not be as familiar with: "No. He's inside my head, piloting me. I'm Lionizer."

"Ohhhh! Neat! Nice to meet you! Is that for Cubefall or are you always like that?" He never did get the specifics.

"Cubefall. Normally I'm a lot smaller than this." Pause. "I'd make a cumbersome weapon if I were this large."

"But you do make for an excellent vehicle, buddy."

"Yeah, okay. I think he would've said. I've never seen a cat-ship before."

Insect ships, on the other hand...

Rad speaking now...

"I have. Don't suppose you've ever heard of a TV show called 'Voltron'. But Lionizer here appears to be Voltron's Red Lion. At least, from all appearances, he does."

"Nope. I still don't know a lot of Earth shows. What's it like?"

"It's a show from an Earthen country called 'Japan'," he begins. "It's about five space explorers who each pilot a robotic space ship that resembles a lion, to varying degrees, and each one has a different colour. There's the Black Lion, Green Lion, Blue Lion, Yellow Lion, and Red Lion. And whenever planet Arus-the planet the lions come from-is under attack, which seems to be pretty much each episode, the lions link up to form a robot called 'Voltron'. Red Lion is Voltron's right arm."

"Dude, my family had to do that once! Only the ships were insects."

"Insects, huh? Sounds like your world is one big reference to other fandoms you'd know more about Voltron than you thought." Pause. "Don't think insects would be a big seller, though. Vehicle Voltron certainly wasn't as popular as its lion counterpart."

"Vehicle Voltron? What's that, like, putting regular vehicles together to form a giant robot? What kind?"

"Pretty much, that's the general idea." Pause. "Something humanoid. For some reason, most of the robots in human television are humanoid in structure."

Possibly to help the audience identify with the character more.

"No, I mean the vehicles."

"Oh. I get you now. There were three types. The sea team was the Aqua Fighter, the land team the Turbo Terrain Fighter, and the air team was called the Strato Fighter. I have no idea why they needed an underwater team, since the pilots all lived in space." Pause. "Then again, they were looking for planets to colonise, so perhaps they needed the sea team in case the planet had large areas of open water."

"And... each team made their own robot, or what?"
