Bartending? Sure, how hard can it be?

Alyx is bored, and frustrated with the half-dozen projects she's been working on of late.

She is also more or less flat broke.

Clearly, there's only one thing to do.

Ellen's tidied up a good bit and made excellent use of her stimpaks since she came in from Rivet City, but she's still a little bit the worse for wear. That's what happens when you jump into the Potomac on purpose, these days. Nevertheless, she's peering curiously at the specials.

"I have absolutely no idea what any of those are," she admits.

"Neither did I, until I started browsing through here," says Alyx, nodding toward the book on the counter. "Hi, Ellen."

"What goes into those, anyway?" Ellen says. "They have so many kinds of alcohol here..."

"Lots of things." She flips through the book. "A Crowbar has whisky, rum, and tequila... a Dr. Peg Leg has rum and Dr. Pepper... a Big Dog has kahlua, vodka, milk, and Pepsi..."

Truth be told, Alyx isn't sure what a lot of that stuff is, either.

"Can I get a Shirley Temple, extra cherries, please Alyx?" She asks sweetly as she takes a seat at the bar.

"Sure. Just a sec..." Alyx flips to the 'S' section of the book. Shaker, sherry--ah, Shirley Temple. Ginger ale and grenadine. Should be easy enough.

...give her a couple of minutes to figure out what ginger ale and grenadine are, and where they'd be stashed behind the bar.

Coreen points to the grenadine on the counter, and nods toward the soda squirter. "Sprite or any kind of lemon-lime soda works well too."

She smiles. It's tough to not know what you're doing.

"Ah. Right. Got it." The glass is quickly filled, and three cherries dropped in. "Here ya go."

"Hallo, beautiful. Can I get a martini, extra olive?"

a_mere_child May 6 2009, 02:33:47 UTC
"Sure." Gin, vermouth, stir, strain, add olives, serve to--

Alyx finally looks up and blinks. "Who ordered the martini?" she calls, completely missing the little lizard seated directly opposite her.

"Oy, down here!"

His smile flickers and resettles into a sneer.

"S'alright. I'm used to it."

To her credit, Alyx doesn't blurt out anything obvious like 'Good Lord, a talking lizard!'. She just stares at him for a long moment before saying: "Aren't you a little small to be having this much alcohol at once?"

"What's in the Orange Amnesia, milady?"

Will still has the book he was reading earlier, but for now he recognizes the look of a new bartender.

"Just 'Alyx,' please," she says automatically. "I'm nobody's 'lady.'"

Alyx skims through the book. "Vodka, 7-Up, Bawls energy drink, and a couple of different kinds of orange juice mix. Damn, I'm gonna have to scale down the recipe, it's supposed to be made by the pitcher..."

"Pleasure to meet ye, Alyx. I'll just take whate'er's simplest then, know 'ow confusin' things can be back there."

"I'm... not sure which one that is," Alyx admits sheepishly. "I just picked them because I liked the names."
